Spokesperson Addresses Pat Robertson's Comments On Ariel Sharon

Earlier this week religious leaders were criticizing Pat Robertson for suggesting that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's stroke was divine punishment for "dividing God's land." Today, Robertson's people issued a statement on that comment.

Robertson said on his TV program that the Bible "makes it very clear that God has enmity" against those who would divide Israel. Robertson also referred to the 1995 assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who had sought to achieve peace by giving land to the Palestinians.

---snip---

But a spokeswoman for Robertson says the broadcaster was saying "what the word of God says." Pat Robertson expresses his deep sadness over Ariel Sharon’s life threatening stroke and concern for Israel’s future security.

(God speaks through Pat? Wait... there is more...)

---snip---

She also expressed Dr. Robertson’s outrage at People for the American Way, who have a clear left-wing political agenda and who, on an ongoing basis, lift his comments out of context and widely circulate them in an attempt to discredit him.

Okay - so he said what he said, and he was only stating what God has said... BUT he is outraged at the People for the American Way taking his words (that I just confirmed he said) out of context...

er...

3. Didn't you just know this was coming?
It's the old "Blame God/Don't quote me out of context,
even though that's exactly what I said" defense.

What a crock!

4. Why is he still allowed on the air
and people even repeating what he has said? He's absolutely insane, a dangerous nutcase. Just what does he have to say to be removed?

10. scary item I read today per the "Christmas Controversy"
that ole Pat helped stir. A school district in Wisconsin was subject to his ridicule (and lies) on his show - then picked up by ORielly, and now the district, based on the volume and tone of letters/emails received, has to take SECURITY measures for their schools. Pat and his ilk - use items to inflame their nuttiest followers - and then ignore that there is ANY COST to anyone or any entity as a result of the spewing of lies in the first place.

12. That's terrible!
You know, if one of the whackos who watch and believe Robertson and his ilk every decide they are doing "God's work" and go out and kill or injure someone at this school district, Robertson and O'Lielly will either ignore it or distance themselves from their phoney "war" as fast as they can.

13. and they will move onto the next manufactured issue to froth
up their followers/listeners/viewers... pull out fraudulent stories about individuals or communities and still not give a dang about any possible actions of those they have worked into a frenzy. At least Jenny Jones got it... she kept on with her show - but it went campy kitschy and she shied away from anything that could lead someone to such tragic actions again.

The bible also says..
.... that it would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven, but the religious right seems to ignore that statement.
