Forum with Congressmen Moran and Murtha Packs Hall, 500 Turned Away
A town hall forum hosted by Congressman Jim Moran and featuring Congressman Jack Murtha packed a large room in Arlington, Va., Thursday evening, and filled an overflow room, and had to turn away another 500 people. The media was well represented.

Another vet asked "Why not impeach Bush-Cheney?" That question resulted in by far the loudest and longest applause of the evening -- an extended period of foot-stomping, hooting, and hollering. Murtha gave a nonanswer. Moran replied that "impeachment is inconsistent with the democratic process." When this led to boos and hisses and shouts of "It's in the Constitution!" Moran added that impeachment "is not going to happen" in the current Congress, as if he were watching from the stands and not himself a Member of Congress.

Well the good news is that WE THE PEOPLE are standing up and getting involved in the political process. WE THE PEOPLE DEMAND IMPEACHMENT. What is this shit coming from Murtha and Moran!!??

AND these lies!
Someone asked: "Are we building permanent military bases in Iraq?" Murtha said no. Moran said no, but we have spent $700 million on an embassy.

At one point, Murtha said, "I support what we did in Fallujah, because we're saving American lives."

And they can't even support Kucinich!!
Another member of the audience asked whether either congressman supported Congressman Dennis Kucinich's bill to create a cabinet-level Department of Peace. Both gave non-answers.

AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

2. Keep in mind that Jim Moran
was the driving force behind this horrendous new bankruptcy law, and has made any number of anti-Semitic cracks over the years.

He's also the recipient of a six-figure "loan" from MBNA a few years ago, when his third (or was it his fourth?) divorce got expensive and messy - after all, leaving your young wife and your toddler daughter, who was being treated for brain cancer, can be costly. Small wonder that he championed the bankruptcy bill.

He's my congressman. I won't vote for him.

3. This makes me sick
Whenever we are led to believe members of congress are really working towards the people's benefits, we're disappointed so often. Wish more were like Conyers and Jackson-Lee.

5. Conyers came out right after this meeting and called us to
action based on Murtha's statements. Obviously, Conyers supports them too.

4. I watched this last night and the article quotes that
you cite are not representitive of the town meeting that I watched at all. the quotes you cite are merely snipets of the answers given, so of them rather lengthy, although not all were.

I suggest you watch this town meeting for yourself and draw your own conclustion. Even Moran was honest and forthcoming.

The fact that we don't want to hear that impeachment seems impossible, doesn't make it any less true from Moran's point of view, does it? Moran makes some suggestions to see that things can happen. Most things we are already doing, but still they needed to be said out loud again and a again.

Taking back the house is the only way impeachment would be possible. Period.

Watch the show and you might not be as AAAAAARRRGGGGHHHHHHHH!! after as you are now. :hi:

8. What else did he say about impeachment?
Did he really say "impeachment is inconsistent with the democratic process."

what is he talking about? Why did he say that first?

Saying it is not going to happen is a useless position, and coming from him it is ridiculous. It only takes one Representative to call for it, and the rest of American people will be right behind them.

Congress will only impeach him if we demand it, and continue to until we get what we want.

9. He did say that, as his OPINION
not that he wouldn't support it though. You really have to see it for yourself. Check out this thread for a rundown, but watching it is better than this thread even.

10. I liked most of what I heard ...
I believe there is a reason why these congressmen won't say go for impeachment. Maybe it has something to do with the upcoming election.

As far as the military bases in Iraq I heard others discuss them but not a length, maybe they don't want to discuss some things because they don't know what will happen and how the house and senate will be after the elections.

11. about that embassy...
A Kuwait-based construction firm has already been awarded $300 million of the embassy deal. Several other Middle Eastern and American building companies are bidding for the remaining budget. Funding will probably come from IRAQ‘s oil revenues channeled into rebuilding the war-torn country.

The building is in effect an imperial seat of power, which will be built in IRAQ alongside four massive military superbases the U.S. is building around the Iraqi capital. Washington has many “secret' military bases in several Gulf states, including Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar. The huge desert bases, that include airstrips and aircraft hangars, are up to 20 miles square and are not shown on civilian maps

An Iraqi security source said: "The plans for the embassy building will make it the largest and best protected diplomatic building overseas for the United States…. You may as well move the Pentagon to Iraq. It will be amazingly secure but it also flies in the face of claims America is preparing to leave IRAQ to be policed and governed by Iraqis….

"Plans for four superbases across the country will only reinforce the view that the U.S. is here to stay for the duration," the official added.
