FIlibuster Alito! Now is the time to call your Senators.
Edited on Fri Jan-06-06 12:17 PM by Eric J in MN
If you have one or two Democratic Senators, call their offices to request a filibuster against Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito.

We need a Supreme Court which will stand up for civil liberties. Alito consistently opposes civil libertis.

You can find the phone number of your Senator's offices by going to:
http://www.vote-smart.org

and typing the Senator's last name on the top-left.

After calling, ask to speak to someone about "Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito" and then request a filibuster.

1. They need to hit him hardest on Executive Powers
It's not abortion, women's rights, union rights, or any other wedge issue. It is pure and simple: Executive Power.

His writings are pretty clear on his feelings about it. And if they do the questions correctly, he'll Bork himself! A fillibuster would work, but a "down" vote would be better.

2. Why should we encourage a filibuster before the man's even gotten a chance
to speak?

Let him testify.

THEN call for a filibuster, if it's necessary.

4. The public needs to set the tone now.
I'm not saying that Senators need to announce a filibuster today.

I'm saying we need to tell our Democratic Senators that we want one today, to set the tone for tough confirmation hearings next week, (ideally followed by a filiuster.)

7. CNN's spin last night was that he'll be questioned hard but his
confirmation will go through because the Dem's don't have the coordinated numbers for a filibuster. People had best move on this otherwise he's in and America is OUT!!
