What's the excuse for rising gas |
|
prices this time? The only thing I've heard is something about Russia and the Ukraine arguing over gas.It couldn't be consumption winter is a down time.Or are they just positioning us for the $4.00 gas to come this summer? The only good thing about rising gas prices is it makes Bush's poll numbers fall.

1. The other good thing about the high cost of gas, is that people think |
|
more carefully about how they use their cars. It also makes other fuels more viable and forces us to look at developing alternatives. We'll never get off the dime if gas is cheap.

2. (Uhmmm) Natural gas or gasoline? (Seems to be mixed up, here.) |
|
Our natural gas prices are up partly due to increase in natural gas electrical power generation. Gasoline prices are rebounding after holiday suppression, I think.

17. Doh! You're right. I was thinking gasoline. Nat gas is going to keep going |
|
up because as you say, we're using it to make power. High demand, low supply, we're screwed there too. No upside to that one.

3. The Russa-Ukraine argument is about natural gas. Last I heard |
|
the gas prices are going up because after Katrina, Europe too gas out of their reserves to send to us to help us get over the mess. They stopped sending it to us 1-2 weeks ago. Little noticed item in the news. If fact, I don't think it's being talked about at all. The damage done by Katrina is still around. A lot off wells are still offline. Not sure if they fixed the pipe lines yet or not.
And yes, look for $3-4 this summer. Demand is going higher. And if we invade Iran, no one will be able to afford gas.

14. I actually looked into getting a smaller car. |
|
I have a Monte Carlo it gets about 28-29 gallons highway 23-24 city. The small cars I looked at only get 5 miles to a gallon better mileage,it's not worth it to me to lose the looks and comfort for 5 miles a gallon. If they got in the low 40's then I would.

6. The gathering storm clouds of Peak Oil, that's what |
|
They may not want to admit it, but their backs are against the wall. Regardless of how much they talk about exploration or new refineries, the plain fact is that oil is a limited resource and one whose time is short. They would have built new refineries, but they know they can't get their money back out without a supply of oil.
I believe these price fluctuations are simply a precursor to the upheaval that awaits the petroleum markets.

He's pissed at us for something. I'll get on the phone with Pat Robertson and find out where we've gone astray.

9. Lack of LNG terminals in the US |
|
To transport gas (from say Indonesia) you need to liquify the gas and ship it to the US.
However, there are no LNG terminals in the US to meet rising demand for natural gas.

18. Or, say South America... |
|
and if we knew more about Cheney's secret energy papers, we would understand why Arnold Schwarzenegger was a participant in the machinations before he even became governor of California. His job was to grease the ways by easing California EPA guidelines and cut the red tape to implement building the LNG terminals in Southern California. If we were privy to information in Cheney's energy papers, we would also understand that the energy companies were poised to grab the newly developed Bolivian natural gas reserves for pennies on the dollar, build a pipeline to the Pacific through Peru, and ship the LNG to California and sell it at all time record high prices. Twenty-first century Robber Barons. Well, that was the plan as I understood it a few years ago, but the ground rules have changed, what with the political shift we observe happening in South America. Things are in a state of flux and all bets are off the table.
Nevertheless, natural gas is the up and coming darling commodity in the energy field and expect to hear more about in the future. And remember, China is vying for the same natural gas so it will prove to be an interesting ride.

|
And thats just a pipeline to feed Europe. Nothing to do with gasoline prices.
Say $2.55 last night in suburban Chicago.
