Poll question: IT'S the one-word poll: What are you for?
Edited on Fri Jan-06-06 02:13 PM by undisclosedlocation
We've all been so angry for so long that at some point it becomes hard to remember what we're actually for since we know damned well what we're against. At the same time, with all the marketing grads naturally going where the money is, the Republicans/ 'christian' right/ corporations have a big advantage in glomming onto one-word slogans that fit easily onto bumper stickers and lift-gate magnets. So forgive this perhaps childish effort to see what kind of one-word banner that we could possibly get behind. I live in South Carolina and have to see this shit every day. If we're going to win this thing back, we probably will have to learn to condense our message down to few words, or words of few syllables, too.

Feel free to explain your answer in as many words as you feel are necessary, or why the effort is necessarily doomed to failure.

Edit: "Compassion" and "Justice" take the place of "Brotherhood or Sisterhood or Siblinghood or Familyhood" and "Safety," respectively.

Editedit: "Community" replaces "Opportunity."

7. I agree ... love embraces all the others.
And "compassion" is also good. As Bill Clinton used to say with sincerity "I feel your pain." I believe he truly does.

6. Justice (and speaking of "undisclosed locations"...)
I'm surprised "Justice" wasn't on there. Although maybe they read Plato and decided against it. :)

and speaking of "undisclosed locations"...(the thread starters handle):

Dick Cheney's Infamous "Secure, Undisclosed Location" Revealed!

27. It's on there, now
and I'm gratified that somebody finally got my username. Over the years, I've gotten a lot of "You're in Columbia SC? Then I guess your location is disclosed. Yuck yuck yuck!" The lesson is that one should never choose a username to ridicule somebody for hiding in a bunker just before they crawl out of that bunker. Oh well.

26. I was sorry that I couldn't boil down "impeachment, removal,
indictment, conviction and lifelong imprisonment for crimes against humanity" into one word. But it's definitely something I believe in!

Edited on Fri Jan-06-06 01:38 PM by rateyes
Then, for me, it has to be "love."

Love, imo, is ACTION toward others which brings to them: freedom, dignity, equality, etc.

If you deny dignity--you do not love. If you deny equality--you do not love. If a person is hungry, and you do not feed them, you do not love them. If you do not love someone, how can you call them your "brother, sister, family, etc.?" If I love, I will seek justice.

Just me, though. Love compels me to allow you to disagree. :)

12. understanding
for it is the lack of understanding that leads to the lack of all of the above, and the presence of understanding that would lead to an abundance of all of the above.

13. Liberty
Those things bush is eroding in his bogus war against the boogie man.

This war is against the people of this country. The powers that be want more power and the way to do that is to take away our rights to look at what theyre doing in the name of the "war"

Populism is the way to go in my mind. Edit to specify ECONOMIC populism as opposed to the social populism the right has used so successfully.

25. Certainly the ideal one to embrace to set one apart from the Bushistas
but I'm not comfortable putting it on, since this is still in the context of American politics and even though Democrats in general are relatively more truthful than Republicans, I doubt you'll get the general public to believe it. Still, I hope you get a lot more dittos.
