My experience with avian flu (H5NI)
"The feared H5NI virus was also found in a wild duck in Mannheim, a city of 300,000 in the southwestern state of Baden-Wuerttemberg. It was the first such case in a major population centre in Germany.

Officials restricted access within a three-kilometre radius around the site where the bird was found as test were being carried on the dead animal to see if it carried the highly pathogenic form of H5N1 which can kill humans.

Tough new measures come into force in infected areas in five states over the weekend with cats having to remain indoors, dogs on a leash and access to poultry farms restricted to "

The duck was found in the waters not too far away from the famous "Water Tower" downtown. So far no one has suggested we hide tuna under our beds though. People are going about their business. No shunning of those who sneeze or cough.

Chicken sales are down though - people are worried enough not to buy chicken and it is hurting the poultry farmers/markets here in Germany. German officials are telling people not to worry - to not be afraid of the chicken - to not panic.

The storing of tuna might be the US governments way of saying "there's going to be a chicken shortage" in America if the migratory birds make it that way carrying the avian flu. The Bush Regime loves to fear-monger and usually that fear-mongering comes with profits attached to it for someone. Rummy, of course - but probably not just Rummy. The poultry industry could benefit from subsidies/ bigger tax exemptions if their product is destroyed as a "pre-emptive" measure and tuna prices will most likely increase as demand goes up (real or intentionally inflated demand) and supply has to be met - as will chicken prices (pay more for a "scarce" & "safe" product). Don't forget pet foods and other products that use chicken/tuna.

People who work in poultry plants will be laid off if there are less chickens to process - or their hours will be cut and they don't make a whole lot anyway.

Others will also be hit by the counter-productive reactionary measures the Bush Regime is well known for.

If fear can be used to make a buck, it will. Anywhere it can. We all know that Bush doesn't need an actual threat to create a crisis and the people always suffer for it.

1. "No one has suggested we hide tuna under our beds." I love it.
Could our government do ANYTHING more to make the rest of the world laugh at us?

2. I know! My neighbor asked me if I was hiding tuna or not
I was soooo embarrassed. I laughed and agreed it was stupid - but boy, was I embarrassed.

Instead of duck and cover we get Tuna and Hide now.

3. Duck and cover...Duct tape and plastic...hidden tuna. It's a natural
progression, isn't it?
