bush admits in speech / monitoring calls originating from within US
Edited on Fri Jan-06-06 02:58 PM by Ksec
On Dec 18 Bush admits to monitoring calls that were sent from within this country.
Just in case the wingers ever try to snow you on this.

bush:
"They are from outside the country to in the country, or vice versa. So in other words, this is not a -- if you're calling from Houston to L.A., that call is not monitored. And if there was ever any need to monitor, there would be a process to do that. "

1. Uh-huh!
"And if there was ever any need to monitor (internal US calls), there would be a process to do that. "

Yeah, and that process is called BREAKING THE LAW.

But they wouldn't DO THAT, would they?

was international. that is not what the stink was about. the stink was in fact that it was within the country both parties that raised the fuss and broke the law and bush admitted to already on tv when this first broke. seeing that it was all of two weeeks ago, am i remembering this correct?

4. Interesting pause there
Bush: "So in other words, this is not a -- if you're calling from Houston to L.A., that call is not monitored."

Doesn't it look like he was about to say "this is not a domestic surveillance program"; then had to stop & revamp it to prevent stating another lie? The truth about this program will come out very soon & Bush is really "monitoring" what he'll say about it for fear of those words coming back to haunt him.

5. Anyone have the dates Kerry was in LA while Edwards was in Houston?
I guess that would qualify for "any need to monitor"

7. another thing
This Christine Amanpour interview with Andrea Mitchell asking her if her calls had been spied on. I dont believe Amanpour was the target . Her husband whose name escapes me at this moment was a big shot in the Kerry campaign for President in 2004. Makes perfect sense. Anyone have anything on this. Excuse me if Ive missed this because Ive been busy and havent kept up.

9. He also said that they 'always get warrants' to do wiretaps.
His word is worthless. Well- not *quite* worthless, because you can usually assume he's lying, so truth can sometimes be gleaned from his comments, albeit indirectly.

Still- I understand what you're saying. Even that simple admission is enough to impeach the little bastard.

10. What about telecom co's routing a call from Houston to LA thru Canada?
Or another country?

There was a thread on DU where that exact practice was discussed.

I hope this isn't something that's already been said in this thread.

12. Hes admitted it
"They are from outside the country to in the country, or vice versa."

Vice versa .

That covers him when they bring him up on perjury charges. He will point to that statement where he admits to tapping outgoing calls with the vice versa thing...
