Tax Payers Pay for 95% of Bush Political Travel! (Waxman uncovers)
Dan Froomkin (WaPo) has this comment with a link to Waxman's site where there is a chart of Bush/Cheney's travels over the US spreading their Propaganda for the Repug Party:

=====================================
DAN FROOMKIN...Washington Post
Rep. Henry Waxman and the minority staff of the House government reform committee yesterday released a report showing that taxpayers pay over 95 percent of the cost of flights by the president and vice president for campaign-related events. "Using figures from 2002, the last time the President and Vice President traveled on behalf of others in a nonpresidential election cycle, the report projects that taxpayers will spend over $7 million in 2006 on presidential and vice presidential political travel."

As far as I can tell, not a single news outlet picked up this story this morning.

Rep. Waxman releases a new minority staff report that shows that taxpayers pay over 95% of the cost of flights by the President and Vice President for campaign-related events.

Using figures from 2002, the last time the President and Vice President traveled on behalf of others in a nonpresidential election cycle, the report projects that taxpayers will spend over $7 million in 2006 on presidential and vice presidential political flights.

4. I am sure this money doesn't include what it costs Americans
for this asshat to fly all over the country and sell his war, prescription drug benefit, and social security scam.

5. I heard about this on the Diane Rehm show this morning (NPR)
and I think the parties should pick up the tab for this type of activity. As a taxpayer, I do not want one penny of my tax dollars to go to Republican fund raising. PERIOD!

11. Not one penny is supposed to.
They try to get away with it by mixing in with some sort of "legitimate" government business.

7. Air Force One is Bush's SUV,
the United States Treasury is his ATM, and the U.S. military in Iraq is his video game.

8. Froomkin said he hadn't seen MSM coverage....I wonder if only
the Lefty Sites will pick it up. Spread it around if you guys post on other Boards. THIS is something average Americans can UNDERSTAND...

We were told the Repug Party Reimburses us Taxpayers for his travels. He's on the road constantly..never stops. If folks new... Could even Limbaugh defend this?

12. How does that compare with previous administrations?
This comparison needs to be made, otherwise a single data point is not helpful.

14. I agree , BUT... EVERY president gets accused of this
I remember articles about how Clinton was "wasting our tax money" on travel..

The fact is... presidents travel...all of them..and since they HAVE to have the entoruage and protection, it's gonna cost a BUNCH..

What bothers ME is the fact that when *² travels, it's OBVIOUSLY partisan and usually to republican fundraisers or military bases.. THAT'S the bogus part..

Someone needs to do a story that counts the ACTUAL DAYS *² has spent in DC.. That would be very enlightening..
