Request for comments on proposed new DU forum: "Investors Forum"
Edited on Fri Jan-06-06 05:06 PM by MazeRat7
Given all the brew-ha-ha about the economy, loss of the middle class, tax cuts for the "wealthy", etc... I was cruising the forums the other day and noticed there is not an "investor" forum at DU. Now I know there are many of you out there making additional income from investments (if your not...then maybe you should consider it as an alternative income supplement) so why is there not a group ? There are many viable corporations doing the things we advocate daily...alternative energy, environmental cleanup, organic foods, etc... is anyone else interested in a forum for discussing the technicals of these companies?

How about using the same forum to discuss trading strategies for stocks, indexes, options, etc ? Certainly there are other active traders on this board beside myself and certainly there are investors looking to improve their positions.

So it's a thought anyway and I guess I am trolling for support per the rules for starting a new forum.

Today the reality is - making money is not something you do with a 9-5 job. Many have already figured this out but it is my perception that the left is a little "behind" when it comes to getting into this game. Maybe a forum would help get some basic info out there so others could play. Sure, investing/trading is risky, but at the end of the day that is where the money I used over the years for "unexpected" expenses and political contributions has come from. Besides you have to love the irony -making $$$ trading a repug biased stock and using those dollars to fund yourself and progressive candidates.

edit: Per a comment below: This would not be an investment "advice" forum... rather a discussion forum about companies (green or otherwise) and trading strategies. I suspect that there would need to be a major disclaimer to keep DU off the SEC radar. But first, before drafting a mission statement and worring about those details, is there a general desire amoung the members for this kind of forum ? (think Yahoo finance message boards, etc).

6. As an NASD Series 6 License Holder...
Sounds like trouble to me! But that might be my own paranoia due to the stranglehold the NASD and SEC have on me as to what I can and cannot do. Giving investment advice is way risky, whether you have a license for such things or not.

Did you know that someone who sells securities (stocks, bonds, annuities, etc.) cannot even highlight something in a prospectus? That is how stringent the laws are on offering investment advice.

I would suggest that TPTB do some extensive research on the topic before doing anything.

7. "making money is not something you do with a 9-5 job"
So let's just make our money off those dumb fuckers still doing it?

Sorry, but this seems very anti-labor to me.

10. No... lets get some info out there so they have options...
You want to help labor..give them the options, tools and hope that will allow them to make $$$ in our economy by using their brain and not their back. And BTW... people working 9-5 are NOT all "dumb fuckers".

11. If we regulated Corporate profits...
...we wouldn't need alternative means of earning income.

Any Corporation reinvesting in its workforce through wages, benefits, training, equipment replacement, etc - wouldn't be worth "investing" in. Yet that's the only labor friendly approach to equal access to income.

And, btw there's no reason that workers using their backs shouldn't have their labor justly rewarded.

I'm always looking for information on socially conscious investments or just general opinions on specific stocks/mutual funds. The Yahoo boards are a complete disaster. It would be good to get and give ideas. We have an economy forum, but I think that's too broad, and the daily stock market watch thread is too narrow.

I think it's good that you posted this. There are probably lots of people who are interested who didn't know it already existed.
