Wife of surviving miner has press conference, says
*paraphrasing* that 'God helped her husband because he was more faithful to Him than the others'.

At least, that's the way I interpreted it.

1. According to a CSI episode nonsmokers do not succumb to carbon
monoxide as easily as smokers. Perhaps he was the only nonsmoker.

for medical advice. Smokers might be more tolerant to low levels of CO than non-smokers but it will still kill them them both when exposed to the same level of CO. And since ventilation of non-smokers is more efficient it might kill them first.

16. It's her religion, not her address that caused her to say that.
She's suffering from fundie 'logic'. It knows no boundaries.

33. She DIDN'T say it.
Damn we're so quick to trash anyone of any religious persuasion here we'll just trash this poor woman without any shred of evidence that she said any such thing.

If anyone can put up a link where she even speaks at a press conference more than to ask that people continue to hold her husband in their prayers, I will humbly submit an apology. Until then, maybe we should all take a deep breath before condemning her.

25. Well, when she is taking care of that poor guy, because he likely
won't be "all right" when and if he comes through his hospitalization, she will have plenty of time to figure out what the "Lord's plan" was all about with regard to who was saved, and why. And maybe it had something to do with her intemperate words and thoughts, and her attitude.

But hey, I'll cut her some slack. People say stupid, regrettable things under extreme stress, and she is a product of her environment. If challenged, she'll likely take back her statement.

<snip>

The 25-year-old mother of two, who began dating McCloy when she was 13, said at a news conference Friday that her husband was a fan of heavy metal music, and his interests also include bow hunting and working on cars and electronics.

She said Randy was a devoted husband and father who worked at the mines so she could stay home with the kids. Every morning, she said, the two met at the front door before he went to work and Randy told her, "God loves you, and he loves me, too."

Anna had not spent much time with Randy on Friday because he was undergoing so many tests, but she said she was sure he would recover.

"If he was strong enough to pull through 41 hours in the mines, he's strong enough to pull through this," she said.

Adding: She certainly did have a press conference of her own. I don't see the quote the OP referenced, but here she is before the microphones.

50. I heard her answer reporters' questions on TV this morning
It was a press conference at which the wife, the mother, and the first lady of West Virginia answered questions from the press. I can't confirm or deny whether she said this because I was in and out of the room getting my kids ready for school and didn't hear the entire interview. This was on either Good Morning America or WTAE in Pittsburgh, the local ABC affiliate.

She answered a number of questions which focused around his condition. She said she talked to him about going hunting and fishing again, and that the children visited him briefly. She responded to a question about how she explained her husband's condition to her young children. It was this press conference at which a reporter asked something about the other miners sharing their oxygen with her husband. There was more that I didn't catch.

and therefore able to withstand such conditions for longer than the others. especially since the others have been working there for years longer and the pollution has built up in them.

i can't believe she would say that though. especially with Pat Robertson's comments on SHaron it's hard to have respect for people who have such a faith in that type of God.

24. Oh knock it off. Leave the poor woman alone.
She's is worried about her husband, feels terrible that others lost their family members and isn't even answering questions according to any account I've been able to find. Here are some sources:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060105/ap_on_re_us/mine_explosion_survivor
"McCloy's wife, Anna, looking pale and exhausted, attended a news conference at the hospital Wednesday but did not answer questions."

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2006-01-04-mine-survivor_x.htm
"Anna McCloy declined to answer questions at a news conference, saying only, "Just ask everybody to keep on praying.""

"...Anna told her she had "this feeling of great relief but also, not guilt, but how badly she felt that not everybody was getting that same news.""

think you heard. And it's a flameworthy one at that. IMO, jumping to conclusions without confirmation makes your post no better than the corporate media who fucked up royally.

Verify first, then bitch. But consider that maybe you didn't hear it correctly, or maybe you just heard what you wanted to.
