NYC: this week feels like pre-Iraq invasion. Iran war coming soon?
I wanted to contrast this observation with other fellow New Yorkers.

Right before the invasion of Iraq in 2003, the city experienced a major surge in security and preparedness for a potential counter-attack from those WMD that Hussein, as we were told, had all over the place. Police were seen everywhere, from street corners to subway stations, and first-response and firefighting units rehearsed their drills more often than ordinary.

Well, the last few days feel like that once again in the Big Apple. Not only I've seen these things all over the place, but even CBS' 60 Minutes dedicated a report to this matter last night.

Are these signs that military action on Iran is imminent? Anyone else getting the same vibes? Any news on the potential war with Iran?

Getting a bit nervous here.
:scared:

1. Strange procedure on an airplane lately.
On a flight saturday, the steward took a beverage cart and blockaded the restroom area off just so the pilot could go to the bathroom; is that typical?

3. I really don't think Shrub is going to invade Iran.
I agree with John Murtha. Did you hear him on MTP yesterday? Russert asked him about that, and he said "He's not going to invade Iraq because we don't have the equipment OR the troops to do that! Iraq is more than twice the size of Iran and has more than twice the number of people!"

I really think this is just a lot of saber ratteling!

4. with over a hundred thousand troops in Iraq
and thousands of people stateside who would be interested in serving already having completed tours, where would they get the troops from?

and, no, a draft wouldn't work, they can't just draft people and send them to war three days later.

basically, no, I've been hearing about how an attack on Iran is around the corner for six months. it can't just happen like flicking on a lightswitch.

11. You didn't miss a thing
(so snark, I guess). Listen to any DLC'er - they were right to support w. on Iraq, and they will be "right" to support w. going in to Iran. I actually see this as a 2007 move. I think that 2006 will be a draw, Dem gain wise.

15. I'm a fellow New Yorker
And I have noticed a much higher police presence, especially in the subways, the past few weeks and it seems that police are searching people's bags every day now in the subway, in contrast to every once in a while from last summer to a few weeks ago.

I doubt a war with Iran is imminent, but it does make me think that there is definitely something going on.

17. ***PETITION TO SIGN: NO WAR WITH IRAN ***
Hello,

For the past year, the growing tensions mounting between the US, Israel, and Iran are reaching a point where military action against Iran is w/in months of becoming reality. The repercussions are terrifying as such military action could involve countries such as China and Russia as they share massive energy/economic interests w/ Iran. The most likely scenario we would face would be the collapse of the US economy as the combination of a massive rise in oil prices and a run on the US dollar would surely be the weapon many countries would use to fight back against a preemptive US or Israeli strike.

For a collection of articles and resources on this subject you can visit this link: http://reseaudesign.com/research/iran/iran_summery.html

I'm starting up a petition which I will be sending out to as many members of Congress as possible. I'm asking for help to get this signed by as many people, possible in the next month. Send it to as many people you can.

Also, here is another petition you can sign from another group:
http://stopwaroniran.org/statement.shtml

Thanks for your time
