Another wasted CNN 360.....shame on Anderson Cooper... |
|
This is not meant to be callous. I am empathetic, my heart goes out to those affected by the mine disaster. But....my feeling is that the news media salivates for these sorts of disasters, as well as missing blondes, murdered wives and husbands, sex offenses or divorces of the stars, etc. Why? Because they don't have to report on the incredible swamp of scandals and real, impactful news to our citizens. If only they would get back and do the job that they are supposed to do.
So - all Mine Disaster, All The Time. What will be the next diversion from covering what they should be covering?

3. It's not the news, it's how it's covered. |
|
If the reportage of the mine disaster results in more attention being paid to the dangers under which the people who help mine one of our crucial energy sources must work, and to ways to change that, or make us rethink our dependence on coal as an energy source, it makes sense to cover that as a story.
That's a different matter from just trying to exploit people's personal tragedy. And it would have more of a legitimate impact on our lives than finding out what happened to some vacationing teenager in Aruba.

of the survivors. Playing it out and exploiting them. It's the kind of stuff one used to see on the National Enquirer or something.
The Media bypasses "CONTEXT" and "EXPLOITS" those who are vulnerable. But, who knows...Maybe they know their audience doesn't give a hoot about what caused it and how it might have been prevented...they just like "If it Bleeds it Leads" tabloid stuff.
Their ratings maybe go up every time they do this. And, remember,as they tell us Iraq is "old news." :-(

6. I know lots of DU'ers had high hopes for him after Katrina...but |
|
I never saw it with him. He was hanging around NO's and doing "human interest" stories during Katrina. Then CNN billed him as a "hunk to watch" or something like that from the ads, I saw. They kept doing profile shots like he was a rock star. I kind of figured it would go down from there.... But, sad that it seems to have sunk to the level you all are reporting. I don't watch him...because I figured I couldn't take any more media disappointment.
