"Focus on Family" HOPPING MAD about "Book of Daniel"
"...portraying Jesus as a namby-pamby frat-boy-guru..." Note: funny, they don't object to a namby-pamby frat-boy President.

Waliszewski

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Jan. 6 /Christian Wire Service/ -- In response to NBC's new television show, The Book of Daniel, Focus on the Family's Bob Waliszewski issued the following statement:

"Having previewed the pilot and an additional episode, I find NBC's new television show, The Book of Daniel, extremely repulsive in its portrayal of Jesus Christ and intentionally offensive in its flippant attitude toward behaviors almost universally agreed upon as unhealthy to society, morally bankrupt, and, dare I say it, sinful. Adultery. Teen sex. Involvement in a menage a trois to spice up a marriage. Homosexuality. A pastor who expects, and supports, premarital intercourse. Drug use as a sexual boost. And the list goes on and on.

"Still, most egregious is its portrayal of Jesus. On Daniel, the Individual believed to be the Savior of the world by nearly a billion people around the globe is cast as a wimpy, white-robed visitor who cares little about evil, addictions and perversity. This Christ glosses over a teenager's sexual romps with a, "He's a kid, let him be a kid."

"The Jesus of Daniel is a long way from the holy compassionate Third Person of the Trinity who created the universe, then found the sin-problems of mankind so egregious that He gave His very life sacrificially to bring redemption. You won't find that Jesus on Book of Daniel. Sadly, if the Jesus of Book of Daniel was the real deal he'd need to apologize to the woman caught in adultery (in John 8) that he instructed, "Go now and leave your life of sin." Viewers with limited knowledge of the Bible are going to be asking themselves, why was He crucified? And that's a great question for on this show, Jesus winks at the behaviors the genuine Jesus was crucified to save us from.

"While I recognize there are members of clergy who struggle with many of the issues personified by the Webster family, it is the show's callous attitude towards all things Christians, especially the sardonic depiction of Jesus that causes me the most concern.

"I doubt NBC would consider portraying a Muslim cleric or Buddhist monk in the same light. And rightly so. Why? Because to do so would be mean-spirited and insensitive. But for some reason, portraying Jesus as a namby-pamby frat- boy-guru is fine. I'm extremely disappointed that NBC has chosen to air this program."

They recently banned western media (music, tv shows etc). Maybe he'd like it there! Since he hates free speech and all.

9. The show portrayed Jesus as loving;accepting; forgiving
Which is the Jesus of the New Testament.

Dobson and his Focus of the Family need to get over themselves. The religion they teach no longer even resembles Christianity. Dobson can join Falwell and his pink teletubbies, and Robertson with his assassination recommendation of Chavez, and the Sharon fiasco.

This vanilla show, where people face their human problems rather than hiding them as in the past, is mild compared to the banal offerings of the Fox channel.

And Jesus was your friend. It was how I've always pictured Jesus growing up in the church. I thought it was great and loved it. These fundies are showing their true colors.

Edited on Sat Jan-07-06 01:11 AM by bobbieinok
during some reruns.....you have to admit, the Gestapo and prison officials of the show didn't have any connection with the reality of life as a POW in Nazi Germany

edit: I loved the show, thought it was a riot.....and at first didn't understand the protests........

in this country, or perhaps not an exaggeration.
I for one have a family member or two, or three,

21. Yes
I liked how the rev guy did a sermon on not beating yourself over sin (which I agree with) and the bishop woman was complaining about it and saying how the church is seen as too liberal already and than she turns around and pops pills (she didn't get) and having an affair. :eyes:

19. and here I thought it was fairly obvious
that the Jesus in the show was a hallucination of the main character's conscience. It's plainly what he WANTS to hear, it's not really Jesus, you know?

or did they miss that part?

now, have the Catholics complained about the Priest with Mafia connections?

And yes it was only him who could see Jesus. Doy. The part that gives it away for sure is when he's dealing with the young couple who was planning on getting married. The one time talking about he and his wife sex life and than with the guy towards the end. He was just an hallucination. Doy.

20. My Dearest Mr. Waliszewski:
Edited on Sat Jan-07-06 12:45 AM by NanceGreggs
I am truly sorry you didn't enjoy tonight's 'Book of Daniel' premiere, but I can certainly understand your concerns.

Why depict Jesus as a compassionate lover of humanity, when you can so easily visualize Him as the hate-mongering satanic creature preferred by you and your ilk? Sure, we all know that the REAL Jesus is a namby-pamby wimp (you're familiar with the New Testament, I take it -- need I say more?). But the New & Improved Jesus has so much more gravitas -- you know, smiting people like Ariel Sharon, and sending death and destruction in the form of hurricanes to wipe out cities that host gay pride parades - now, THAT'S a saviour we can all get behind!

And honestly, why would Jesus use a medium like a TV network to spread his word, when he has humane and Christ-like followers like Falwell and Robertson to do his good works for Him? I'm talking about good Christian men, who support a president who encourages torture and secret prisons, a president who is willing to gut social programs that assist the poor in order to line the pockets of rich corporations -- now, THAT'S a Jesus people can FEAR and RESPECT!

I couldn't agree with you more. It's time for true Christians to forget that Ol' Time Religion Saviour and rally around CHRIST-2005.COM -- hate your neighbour, torture and kill your enemies, and demonstrate Good Christian Family Values by disowning anyone and everyone in your family who doesn't agree with you.

With Good Christian Soldiers like you, we can win the 'War on Christmas' and make everyone who believes in that old fashioned namby-pamby Christ wish they'd never been born again.

Keep up the good work! I'm sure God will LOVE you for it!

27. Muslim and Buddhist on television. Now there's an idea. Let's see.
We have Abu, a Hindu, on a cartoon show. I can't say he is a positive force on television. Muslim? Hmmmm. The terrorist family in 24. That's all I can think of. Buddhists. Hmmmmmmmmm. Can't think of any shows. Oh, wait a minute. There was that American Muslim terrorist on Law and Order. Yea, television would never show a monk or cleric as they would a christian. That's a joke. They don't have any on any shows anyway. Hey, maybe the WB will come through.
