My friend's son was injured in Iraq Thursday
This is the email I got tonight:

We are feeling very blessed that we still have him with us today. He was one of the two 222nd Utah National Guard that was wounded in Ramadi Thursday. He is pretty broken up he has two fractured legs one broken arm numerous shrapnel wounds. Lauri has been able to talk to him once he was in Germany they flew him there Thursday night after 10 hrs to Baghdad, doing surgery on him there then flying him to Landstuhl Medical hospital in Germany. She will be able to talk to him again about 11:00 tonight. He was heavily medicated when she talked to him earlier so we don't know the full extent of his injuries yet.
A marine was Killed and a Soldier then the two from the 222nd. A suicide bomber detonated his vest full of ball bearings into the crowd they were patrolling while they were signing up for the Iraqi police.

I will let you all know anymore as soon as we know. The news is beginning to broadcast the injuries of the 222nd and I know you are aware he is in this unit.

Keep him in your prayers that's all we can do at this time. He is to have more surgery on his legs Sunday. He is supposed to come to the states at the end of the week. Walter Reed we are thinking at this time. I will let you know on this also.

5. Yes, he is still alive and out of Iraq...
I was going to post his name, but I think I shouldn't until I get a chance to talk to his mom. Good kid and only 19. When he joined the Guard I pitched a fit that could be heard around the world, but he joined with his friends because he didn't want them going off to war without him.

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. I hate Bush!

4. I've read about that incident from Juan Cole's blog...
It has to be someone's kid. :( ...I must mention that there seems to be a concerted effort to get US troops in places like this lately, whereas there's been a lot of police sign-up suicide bombings that had 100% Iraqi casualties. The Shiites are complaining loudly about the US trying to supervise 'their' forces better (police, interior ministry)...

9. It's a no win for our kids that are over there.
I will check out Cole's Blog.

At least he is no longer in Iraq and hopefully won't have to go back.

6. I'm so glad he's alive
and so sad about the others who aren't. It's awful to think about those families--American and Iraqi--who would do anything to be able to write an e-mail about their loved one's future like your friend did, to know that he at least has a future.

I wonder whether your friend feels any relief... her son is terribly hurt, but at least he's guaranteed to be coming home alive.

8. Pray He Doesn't Go Back
because this boy is going to be in therapy for a very long time and will no doubt have a lifetime of pain.

13. I spent 9 years in the Air Force - Andrews Air Force Base
I worked in the hospital and remember every story I was told about Vietnam, Korea, WWII and WWI by those that served in those wars. The horrors of war don't make good movies, they only make bad dreams.

Thank you for sharing this. It's important to remember that we are all touched by the tragedy of Iraq, even if it is "only" on an Internet forum.

18. My deepest heartfelt wishes to this young man
I sympathize with the parents of these soldiers, we are all in the same boat. So many on this board have been wounded. I pray everyday, my son will not be included in this number...
