NYT article makes me wonder if someone is actually listening to Clark.....
While Clark has said he is "not optimistic" about Iraq and just today that "the elections hardened the sectarian divisions in Iraq," he also said this in a NYT OP ed. last month:

"But these efforts must go hand-in-glove with intensified outreach to Iraqi insurgents, to seek their reassimilation into society and their assistance in wiping out residual foreign jihadists. Iraqi and American officials have had sporadic communications with insurgent leaders, but these must lead to deeper discussions on issues like amnesty for insurgents who lay down their arms and opportunities for their further participation in public and private life."

And today there is this in the NYT:

Americans Said to Meet Rebels, Exploiting Rift
By DEXTER FILKINS and SABRINA TAVERNISE
Published: January 7, 2006

BAGHDAD, Iraq, Jan. 6 - American officials are talking with local Iraqi insurgent leaders to exploit a rift that has opened between homegrown insurgents and radical groups like Al Qaeda, and to draw the local leaders into the political process, according to a Western diplomat, an Iraqi political leader and an Iraqi insurgent leader.

Yeah, it makes me wonder...

1. America should have been listening to Clark for the last 3 years
Well, at least that's how long I've been listening to him. The man is spot-on right about this war. However, he rarely gets credit for his speeches and papers on other matters. I remember being very impressed with his plan for the economy, social issues, etc...

3. Democrats aren't listening to him either--they've pretty much
mucked up their stance on Iraq--too many voices all over the place. None as clear as Clark, now with a perfectly honed message thanks to all that practice on FAUX.

4. There was a picture in The New York Times
of all the SODs since Vietnam. Did anyone else notice that Albright and Powell were both adamantly looking away from Bush?

Clark knows better than anyone how this should be done. Everyone steals his ideas. Then finally they claim them as their own.
