Chabot to pass money to charity
$5,000 from tribes going to homeless

By Malia Rulon
Enquirer Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON - Rep. Steve Chabot said Friday that he'll give the $5,000 his campaign received from Indian tribes represented by former Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff to Over-the-Rhine's Joseph House for Homeless Veterans.

The donation comes three days after Abramoff pleaded guilty to defrauding the Indian tribes he represented out of millions of dollars and trying to use gifts and campaign contributions to get official favors.

Chabot, R-Westwood, told The Enquirer Friday that he doesn't know Abramoff and, to his recollection, has never met the former lobbyist or spoken with him.

But Chabot was one of 26 lawmakers who signed a Feb. 27, 2002, letter asking the Bush administration to stop the Jena Band of Choctaw Indians from opening a casino in Louisiana....

2. Then explain the letter, Rep Chabot.
Who got you to sign, and why did you sign it. Perhaps you really didn't know Jack - but someone influenced you to take action and it would be interesting to know who (DeLay?) and to track the level of their ties to Abramoff - and then to know what it was that convinced you that this pro-active action (signing the letter) which has nothing to do with your district, with national GOP politics (as in voting for party), and is completely unrelated to your constituents. Since the door has been opened per your own statement, you really ought to tell us a little more.

4. The bigger issue to me is their voting record
on matters concerning those donations.

3. Hey! Here's an idea Dumbo...
"he'll give the $5,000 his campaign received from Indian tribes represented by former Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff to Over-the-Rhine's Joseph House for Homeless Veterans."

Give it *back* to the Indians.

We've got a local representative who's in this up to her eyeballs too...

Those *AREN'T* discretionary funds... They belong to someone. Here's hoping
this wave washes all of the scum out of office.

5. Evidently nobody knows Abramoff
Amazing how few politicians knew such a high-profile, powerful money dealer.
