I'm watching Connie and Maury on MSNBC. Been about two seconds , But I th |
|
think it is going to be good.
Remember, Connie Chung has been blackballed because she let it slip about Barbara Bush saying Nancy Reagan was a bitch. Soooo, as soon as the program is over, I'm going to e-mail MSNBC and encourage them to keep the show on the air.

6. Franken's Flight w/ the Queen Bitch |
|
Edited on Sat Jan-07-06 10:19 AM by LiberalinNC
In his knee-slapping 2003 book Lies (And the Lying Liars Who Tell Them), Franken relates an encounter with Barbara Bush on a flight to Washington. After describing his unsuccessful effort to pick up a conversation with Bush--the former First Lady rebuffed each approach with, "I'm through with you"--Franken quotes several unnamed "Washington insiders," both Republicans and Democrats, who thought it was funny that Franken regarded Bush's dismissive attitude of him as a form of kidding. Franken writes that at a Bat Mitzvah in Washington soon after his Barbara Bush encounter, "I kept hearing things like: 'Oh no, she's a horrible bitch.' 'Omigod, she's the worst bitch on earth.' 'She can be very charming, but Barbara Bush is the Queen Bitch.'" Then he writes, "But another, even more interesting, insight came from everyone who knew the Bushes. They all agreed. 'Dubya is her son.' He's mean."
Edit: It's much funnier to hear him tell the story. He tells it sometimes on his show!

I just can't erase her repeat performances on CNN when a bush critic would suggest that the intel was slanted, or anything else remotely critical - and she would gasp and put her hand up to her mouth in an "oh, my" gesture and say... "You can't be suggesting...." (fill in with phrases... that the president lied.... or that the president misled... or anything else). The tactic was to shut the person down with stating something in a way that would force the speaker to call the president a liar outright - something most folks were a little too diplomatic to do at the time. Ugh. And the slip about Babs... just a part of connies gossipy side - not any indication of being objective or critical of bushco or the GOP in general.

or does anyone else think more than a few "real" news shows are becoming more and more like the "fake" news "Daily Show"? Film clips narrated with humor... Snarky asides... self effacing hosts...

I don't think they are going for the serious / hard news format. Remember too that they can get away with saying alot more with the snarky angle.

For whatever reason, we Democrats have to use humor to help us get our message out. The Republicans use hate - we use humor. I'll take our method any day.

it doesn't work. I'm just wondering if this is a trend, where will it end? News became infotainment and lost content. If news becomes comedic will it lose all meaning?

22. I watched the beginning and enjoyed it also - then I had to get in the |
|
shower.
Thirty minutes is really short and MSNBC usually shows old crap in the afternoons on the weekends - Headliners and Legends, etc. They should expand the show if it ends up decent.
I soooo hate it when both CNN and MSNBC go to canned crap on the weekends (In the Money on CNN is OK sometimes)while Faux is running live news all day. People, wake up! You are supposed to cover the news on the weekends also!

Maybe sensationalizing DeLay and Abramoff is a good thing...or maybe they will use it as a distraction from the real issues and make them into cartoon characters.
Wasn't Povitch just another Jerry Springer type? And Connie Chung was vile in her show where all she did was sit and either wallow in someone's misery or snark at people. She was worse than Rita Cosby if I remember.

All I can think of when I see them is Maury giving guys paternity tests to determine baby-daddies, and Connie chasing after Tonya Harding during the '94 Olympics.
