Even some radical Israelis believe that God smote Sharon
down. It was because he did not protect the rightful land of the Israelites.

I remember right before the whole Gaza pullout thing that some very radical rabbis did a special ceremony that put a curse on Sharon.

It was kind of one of these surreal moments. But these people were very serious and said that God would smite Sharon down.

1. I think the operative word in this is "radical." Like Pat Robertson. NT

5. Are all of settlers "radical?"
I'm just asking. I don't know.

I was surprised that there were such radical elements in Israel. But I have absolutely no contact with any kind of Israeli politics here in Kansas City.

I guess there are pretty radical groups on both coasts.

21. Mostly
the settlers that you usually see referred to in news reports are there against UN Treaty and Isreali Law. Their entire purpose for moving there is to force the settlement and integration of Gaza and the West Bank. Its been a major bone of contention in Isreali politics for a long time.

Sorry to be so snarky today, but "some people" is my snark alert button.

7. Is OK. I'm just asking because I know so little about the
subject of radical Israeli groups.

We hear about the radical Islamic groups all the time. But we don't hear about the radicals on the other side very much.

8. ‘We prayed for Sharon’s death’
Right-wing activists claim they had held a ‘Pulsa Dinura’ (curse) that called for the prime minister’s demise 10 years after they had put the same curse on slain Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3118275,00.html

<snip>

"Right-wing activists claim they performed a “Pulsa Dinura” - a kabbalistic ceremony in which God is asked to curse someone who is believed to be a sinner - calling for the death of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

Some 20 right-wing activists participated in the ceremony, which took place at the ancient cemetery in Rosh Pina. According to the participants, the ceremony was authorized by rabbis.

It was a call for the angels of destruction to kill Arik Sharon,” Michael Ben-Horin, who participated in the ceremony, told Ynet. “The ceremony was intended for the angels of destruction, not for humans, as it would be futile for people to attempt it (assassinating Sharon) amid all the prime minister’s security.”

9. My guess is if there is a God and he/she/it is doing any smiting
Edited on Sat Jan-07-06 11:57 AM by JohnyCanuck
it could just as likely to be for this:

By Robert Fisk

01/06/05 ""The Independent"" -- -- I shook hands with him once, a brisk, no-nonsense soldier's grip from Sharon as he finished a review of the vicious Phalangist militiamen who stood in the barracks square at Karantina in Beirut. Who would have thought, I asked myself then, that this same bunch of murderers - the men who butchered their way through the Palestinian Sabra and Chatila refugee camps only a few weeks earlier - had their origins in the Nazi Olympics of 1936. That's when old Pierre Gemayel - still alive and standing stiffly to attention for Sharon - watched the "order" of Nazi Germany and proposed to bring some of this "order" to Lebanon. That's what Gemayel told me himself. Did Sharon not understand this. Of course, he must have done.

Back on 18 September that same year, Loren Jenkins of The Washington Post and Karsten Tveit of Norwegian television and I had clambered over the piled corpses of Chatila - of raped and eviscerated women and their husbands and children and brothers - and Jenkins, knowing that the Isrealis had sat around the camps for two nights watching this filth, shrieked "Sharon!" in anger and rage. He was right. Sharon it was who sent the Phalange into the camps on the night of 16 September - to hunt for "terrorists", so he claimed at the time.

The subsequent Israeli Kahan commission of enquiry into this atrocity provided absolute proof that Israeli soldiers saw the massacre taking place. The evidence of a Lieutenant Avi Grabovsky was crucial. He was an Israeli deputy tank commander and reported what he saw to his higher command. "Don't interfere," the senior officer said. Ever afterwards, Israeli embassies around the world would claim that the commission held Sharon only indirectly responsible for the massacre. It was untrue. The last page of the official Israeli report held Sharon "personally responsible". It was years later that the Israeli-trained Phalangist commander, Elie Hobeika, now working for the Syrians, agreed to turn state's evidence against Sharon - now the Israeli Prime Minister - at a Brussels court. The day after the Israeli attorney general declared Sharon's defence a "state" matter, Hobeika was killed by a massive car bomb in east Beirut. Israel denied responsibility. US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld traveled to Brussels and quietly threatened to withdraw Nato headquarters from Belgium if the country maintained its laws to punish war criminals from foreign nations. Within months, George W Bush had declared Sharon "a man of peace". It was all over.

In the end, Sharon got away with it, even when it was proved that he had, the night before the Phalangists attacked the civilians of the camp, publicly blamed the Palestinians for the murder of their leader, President-elect Bashir Gemayel. Sharon told these ruthless men that the Palestinians had killed their beloved "chief". Then he sent them in among the civilian sheep - and claimed later he could never have imagined what they would do in Chatila. Only years later was it proved that hundreds of Palestinians who survived the original massacre were interrogated by the Israelis and then handed back to the murderers to be slaughtered over the coming weeks.

11. Smote? code words for action?
smote- To strike with a firm blow.
smitten-to be afflicted with a desease e.g. or to be strongly attracted to someone or thing.
smores- made with marshmallow, graham cracker and chocolate invented by the Girl Scouts in the late 19th century.
smut- a small bit of soot or some obscene language or pictures
smolt- young salmon migrating to the sea for the first time.
smog- Los Angeleno for 'air'

Now is the time to strike a firm blow against those smitten for chocolate and marshmallows and graham crackers who are blinded by smut and are heading to the sea lost in smog.

If the above does not put the fear of god in you then you are not paying attention! I dare the MSM to publish this.
It's my medication time right now or I would continue this but lets not let this fade into obscurity!

12. All of the "God smiting this or that" has got to stop.
In the first place, nothing is being smitten. Physics evolves according to natural forces. The human experience is a minute subset of the larger whole.

13. There really is no difference between people of all religions
who think that god talks to them directly, who think that they are the only one who should determine how the rest of us should live since they have a direct line to their god.

Whether they are Muslim Talibans, Zealots Jews or Evangelical Christians, the mode of operation is the same and the final result is the same.

I do hope, though, that in contrast to DU "tradition" that such a thread will not be a convenient launching pad to covert Anti-Semitic remarks.

14. If God was going to strike down Ariel Sharon....
...it would have happenned some time around Sabra and Shatilla. Or maybe Jenin.

But when he actually appeared to act like a human being for once in his life?

These morons thought "God" wanted PM Rabin taken out as well. This whole fucked up mess over there migh have been solved, had he lived.

Goes to show you what side these Likudist bastards are on, doesn't it?

And it isn't God's.

16. Sadly, I Know These Type Of People
Most are Orthodox Jews...especially the "charismatics" who have their own biblical prophecies. It's the belief that the true "re-establishment" of the State (Kingdom) of Israel won't happen until the Temple is rebuilt in Jerusalem (right on the spot of the Dome Of The Rock) and this would set the stage for the return/arrivial (I've always gotten conflicting answers to this question) of the "true messiah".

It's no surprise as the Fundies have glammed on to many of these people and visa versa. The problem is where the different religious prophecies play out; and most orthodox Jews either refuse to look at this scenario or are just plain ignorant to the fact they're being used.
