He helped lead the fight to turn back the anti-environmental legislation during the 104th Congress.

Among Mr. Kennedy's published books are the New York Times’ bestseller Crimes Against Nature (2004) The Riverkeepers (1997), and Judge Frank M. Johnson, Jr: A Biography (1977). Surviving Twice: Amerasian Children of the Vietnam War
Trin Yarborough

An estimated 100,000 children were born during the Vietnam War to American soldiers and Vietnamese mothers. So writes Trin Yarborough in her new book, "Surviving Twice: Amerasian Children of the Vietnam War," which looks at what has happened to many of these children since the Vietnam War. The author writes that many of these children faced difficult lives as a result of racial prejudice or an inability to identify completely with the Vietnamese culture. Ms. Yarborough also writes that the fathers of many of these children did not have a relationship with their mothers and as a result, the children often believed they would eventually go to America to establish a new life in the United States with their American fathers. The book also looks at the effects of the Amerasian Homecoming Act, a Congressional program enacted in 1987 which brought 28,000 Vietnamese Americans to the United States before the program was stopped in 1994 because of problems with fraud.

Trin Yarborough has worked as communications director and editor fo the Institute for Policy Studies, as director of communications for Oxfam America, and on the news desk of the California legal publication "The Daily Journal."

Rising Tide: The Untold Story of the Russian Submarines that Fought the Cold War
Gary Weir

During the Cold War, the decision to release nuclear weapons was not left up to the political leaders of each country, but ultimately up to those in charge of the weapons. In the case of the Soviets, this decision was left for the commanders of the Soviet nuclear-armed submarines, engaged in a constant back and forth with their American counterparts. Author Gary Weir tells the story of these Soviet commanders in his new book, "Rising Tide: The Untold Story of the Russian Submarines that Fought the Cold War." The book includes stories of top-secret Soviet exercises off the Atlantic coast as well as debris-collection missions after U.S. weapons tests off the coast of Florida.

Gary Weir is the author of numerous books including "Forged in War: The Naval-Industrial Complex and Submarine Construction, 1940-1961." He is a leading expert on submarines and a historian of science and technology at the U.S. Naval Historical Center and an adjunct history professor at the University of Maryland.
