Ret. Army General William Odom: U.S. Should "Cut and Run" From Iraq
Edited on Sat Jan-07-06 02:08 PM by BigBearJohn
What's wrong with cutting and running? That's the question asked by retired Army general William Odom about the continued US military presence in Iraq. Odom says, "I'm trying to think like a strategist, and in war, as well as in politics and diplomacy, one has to know when to withdraw and when to attack. This was a misguided act and it requires a strategic division and moral confidence to turn it around." What's Wrong with Cutting and Running? That's the question asked by retired Army general William Odom about the continued US military presence in Iraq.

Odom served as director of the National Security Agency under President Reagan. Prior to that, he served as Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence, the Army's senior intelligence officer. He is now a Senior Fellow at the Hudson Institute in Washington.

He recently said, "The invasion of Iraq I believe will turn out to be the greatest strategic disaster in U.S. history."

In his article Odom writes, "The wisest course for journalists might be to begin sustained investigations of why leading Democrats have failed so miserably to challenge the U.S. occupation of Iraq. The first step, of course, is to establish as conventional wisdom the fact that the war was never in the U.S." interests and has not become so."

4. Bush can't cut & run ...
He apparently hasn't reached his target number of deaths to proclaim his 'legacy'.

You can't say he's not trying. Between the Katrina victims, the people who will die this winter because they can't afford to heat their houses, the elderly and seriously ill who won't be able to afford their prescription medication, the people in dangerous workplaces where safety regulations have been lowered to the point of being virtually non-existent, the homeless and mal-nourished who no longer have social programs to turn to ...

Killin' people is HARD WORK - it's so much easier to just 'stay the course' in Iraq, where you can really pile up the bodies on a day to day basis.

When it comes to racking up the corpses, you're doing a heck of a job, Bushie!

5. Odom is Senior Fellow at Hudson Institute that just hired Scooter Libby!
How can this be? Odom says to "cut and run" and he belongs to the think tank that just hired Libby? What's going on here?

6. Cut and run? Naaah. They'd rather play Custer or Westmoreland.
After all, the bosses don't have to get shot at or blown up.
