Poll: Most Say U.S. Needs Warrant to Snoop
Poll: Most Say U.S. Needs Warrant to Snoop
By KATHERINE SHRADER, Associated Press Writer
Sat Jan 7, 11:04 AM ET

WASHINGTON - A majority of Americans want the Bush administration to get court approval before eavesdropping on people inside the United States, even if those calls might involve suspected terrorists, an AP-Ipsos poll shows.

Over the past three weeks, President Bush and top aides have defended the electronic monitoring program they secretly launched shortly after Sept. 11, 2001, as a vital tool to protect the nation from al-Qaida and its affiliates.

Yet 56 percent of respondents in an AP-Ipsos poll said the government should be required to first get a court warrant to eavesdrop on the overseas calls and e-mails of U.S. citizens when those communications are believed to be tied to terrorism.

Agreeing with the White House, some 42 percent of those surveyed do not believe the court approval is necessary.

1. I don't know about the rest of you but does it frighten anyone...
To know that probably a fraction of people at DU are under surveillance without any oversight?

2. this 42% is mostly his base (approx 35%)---the rest are the sheepies.

3. Read IPSOS question and you can plainly see that they
are a BushCo subsidiary. They fail to give the respondent the real story concerning the FISA court and then they offer an either or question. This poll is meaningless in that IPSOS created a dishonest question designed to elevate a positive response.

Here is their bullshit question.

Should the Bush administration be required to get a warrant from a judge before monitoring phone and internet communications between American citizens in the United States and suspected terrorists, or should the government be allowed to monitor such communications without a warrant?

Notice how they fail to inform the respondent that BushCo could get the warrants RETROACTIVELY. They don't even offer it is a choice. They are plainly and simply BushCo whores.

4. Make sure and rate it up!
I trust Ipsos polls more than others, relatively speaking, not that I put a whole hell of a lot of credence into any polls, except my own, lol.

5. Why?
IPSOS can't be a little bit pregnant. They are what they are and the question they asked proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are serving their BushCo masters.

6. It depends on if the poll was commissioned or done independently
If commissioned, the questions are posed to generate the poll numbers needed, if independent the questions by Ipsos, in Canada anyway, are more credible. Was this poll commissioned and, if so, by whom? I could research that myself but, to be honest, the numbers, even with the slanted question, show the majority don't agree with the bush cabal which works for me.
