Laura Logan of CBS is on CNN now SMACKING DOWN this administration
Anyone watching? She said as reporters, they are being told they aren't showing the good things and the progress being made in Iraq. She said the reason is because they aren't ALLOWED to those areas because of security reasons. She said Laura Ingraham should get out behind her desk and the safety of her office and travel to Iraq. :-)

4. Laura Ingraham did travel to Iraq--that's why she's so self righteous
about this whole thing. She was reminded by Carville on the Today Show that 80 reporters have died tried to cover the good news over there. Ingraham showed some cheesecake photo with the troops to prove she was there. She said that reporters are covering the story from hotel balconies and that she went all over with the troops and talked to citizens there. What I want to know is what kind of bad news you expect to hear with a tank looming over you and a rifle pointed down your throat?

22. I don't think for a minute that she doesn't believe what
she says because that is what she was shown... It was all a big show for her so she could go back and with passion in her voice say things are going well... That is what they would have us buy and I guess someone as dumb as Laura Ingraham just needed to be shown this.... Did she ever talk of lost limbs laying in the streets? Or did she speak of what the troops ate for supper? I don't think she has any authority whatsoever to say what is really going on over there when she was shown Iraq-Light instead of Iraq....

WTF? Where does she get the right to point fingers? Was she taking taxis to Samarra and chasing down good stories there?

These people have no shame.

5. Good Morning
Here is part of the transcript:

KURTZ: But critics would say, well, no wonder people back home think things are falling apart because we get this steady drumbeat of negativity from the correspondents there.

LOGAN: Well, who says things aren't falling apart in Iraq? I mean, what you didn't see on your screens this week was all the unidentified bodies that have been turning up, all the allegations here of militias that are really controlling the security forces.

What about all the American soldiers that died this week that you didn't see on our screens? I mean, we've reported on reconstruction stories over and over again…I mean, I really resent the fact that people say that we're not reflecting the true picture here. That's totally unfair and it's really unfounded.

"...Our own editors back in New York are asking us the same things. They read the same comments. You know, are there positive stories? Can't you find them? You don't think that I haven't been to the U.S. military and the State Department and the embassy and asked them over and over again, let's see the good stories, show us some of the good things that are going on? Oh, sorry, we can't take to you that school project, because if you put that on TV, they're going to be attacked about, the teachers are going to be killed, the children might be victims of attack.

Oh, sorry, we can't show this reconstruction project because then that's going to expose it to sabotage. And the last time we had journalists down here, the plant was attacked. I mean, security dominates every single thing that happens in this country….So how it is that security issues should not then dominate the media coverage coming out of here?" - Lara Logan

W. doesn't know what he's going up against when he attacks the media, does he?

21. amen...did you see the clip on TV where they were covering such
a "good news" event (shool opening, maybe), and during the filming a BOMB went off, sending everyone off in a panic

THAT's the clip they should run every time the socalled dearth of good news BS meme is put out there

24. Here's a "good news" perspective:
Edited on Sun Mar-26-06 02:47 PM by Make7
The bomb going off during the school opening segment is included in this piece about halfway through:

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/03/22.html#a7615

I don't recall ever seeing the original segment of the bomb going off at that school - although I'm sure it's out there somewhere.

I just find the whole tactic of blaming the messenger to be interesting because the Administration needs the media to get its own "message" out.

It'll be interesting to see some of the upcoming news coverage. I wonder if it will escalate to the point where the media starts showing footage or photographs of the caskets of returning soldiers. Or perhaps the media could make coverage of the never ending state-side funerals the top story every single night on the prime time news.

31. thanks! as any reasonably informed person is well aware, it's
even WORSE over there than the media shows.

note that almost all 'news' we get from Iraq comes from embeds. As Engel and Logan report, they can't go ANYWHERE anymore without being escorted by the army/marines, etc. it didn't use to be that way for foreign journalists

but the lapdogs here STILL trumpet the WH lie that THEY themselves aren't acting sufficiently sycophantically as stenographers for their propaganda. it's like, "yes, we AREN'T doing as well as we can to catapult the WH propaganda. don't hate us for that, American public, please!"

the occasional feeble attempts to answer the lies emanating from DC are being overwhelmed by their own self-defeating carrying of the message of Cheney, Ingraham, etal, who would have us believe that any attempt to tell the truth about the reality on the ground is disingenuous at best, treasonous at worst

down the rabbit hole again

The transcript is available at CNN's website:

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0603/26/rs.01.html

That quote is pretty much all you need to counter the "it's the media's fault that Iraq seems like a failure" talking point.

The problem is the security situation.

And who might be responsible for that?

From her bio at CBS:

She provided daily reports on the war in Iraq and was the only journalist from an American network in Baghdad when American troops invaded the city, reporting live from Firdos Square as the statue of Saddam fell.

Logan has reported extensively from the frontlines of Afghanistan and has followed the Green Berets as they search for Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden.

Although I think most of that "shakiness" in her voice is from the audio artifacts related to the video conference transmission. Nevertheless, she is definitely not happy about the attacks concerning the media coverage coming out of Iraq - that much is obvious.

33. Logan Kicks Some Kurtz Bootay

Man, Laura Ingraham really stirred up a hornets nest with her wingnutty condescension about "reporting from the balcony in Baghdad" on last week’s Today Show appearance, didn’t she? On Reliable Sources this morning, CBS News reporter Lara Logan, reporting from Iraq, gave Howard Kurtz an earful. Crooks and Liars has the video, and it is worth a watch and then some.

KURTZ: But critics would say, well, no wonder people back home think things are falling apart because we get this steady drumbeat of negativity from the correspondents there.
LOGAN: Well, who says things aren’t falling apart in Iraq? I mean, what you didn’t see on your screens this week was all the unidentified bodies that have been turning up, all the allegations here of militias that are really controlling the security forces.

it worked against Gore

then, they'll keep trying, cause it's the only way they've EVER gotten/maintained power: lie about everything, all the time, then lie some more
