"Democrats hate Delay because he's an effective leader"
Hitler was "effective" too...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A32389-2005Mar13.html

Dan Allen, DeLay's communications director, said his boss was a natural target for Democrats. "Congressman DeLay is a fixture of the conservative movement who's been a very effective leader that works with Republicans to get results," he said. "That alone makes him a target of the Democrats and their allies, but it is also the reason he enjoys the steadfast support of House Republicans."

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9507677/page/1/

At the White House, press secretary Scott McClellan said the president still considered DeLay — a fellow Texan — a friend and an effective leader in Congress.

National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Chairman Tom Reynolds (NY-26) today issued the following statement in response to Democrat Ronnie Earle’s 11th hour indictment of Majority Leader Tom DeLay:

“The Majority Leader has been a highly effective leader of our conference. Democrats resent Tom DeLay because he routinely defeats them – both politically and legislatively.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/national/20050426-122000-1345r.htm

"He's been a very effective leader," Mr. Bush said. "We've gotten a lot done in the legislature, and I'm convinced we'll get more done in the legislature."

The chief reason the Democrats and the press are ganging up on DeLay is obvious: He has been an effective leader of the House Republican majority, and they hope to do damage to the GOP caucus and agenda by taking him out, on the model of former Speaker Newt Gingrich.

They hate Ronald Reagan conservatives like DeLay and they hate that he is an effective leader who succeeds in passing the Republican agenda.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/05/13/AR2005051300045.html

"Tom DeLay is the most effective leader the House has seen in 50 years," Rep. Tom Feeney, a Florida Republican, said as he stood outside a pre-dinner reception. Feeney was one of about 30 House Republicans (and at least one senator, Jim Bunning of Kentucky) counted among last night's guests.

DAN HENNINGER: But back in my political cynicism universe, if that's true, then the Democrats have an incentive to cut him down, right?

PAUL GIGOT: Right, because he's been effective.

17. and the pundits were saying Pelosi should be more like Delay
for our own good of course. Republican pundits giving dems advice again...

http://www.slate.com/?id=2073934

But despite her formidable political skills—even the Wall Street Journal acknowledged that she's smart and telegenic and hard-working—her tenure as House Democratic leader, which hasn't even begun yet, has been a complete disaster from a PR standpoint. Perhaps the Democrats would be best advised to once again take a page from the Republicans: The GOP has an effective leader and party strategist who fires up the party base. His name is Tom DeLay, and he's not the No. 1 House Republican. Pelosi needs a puppet. Too bad Denny Hastert is already spoken for.

7. If by effective they mean...
... willing to not only abuse political power to change laws for partisan advantage, but knowingly break laws as well, I guess they are correct.

He's so effective he'll probably spend the next 10 years making license plates.

12. effective in getting himself
indicted for money laundering..

"A grand jury in Austin charged DeLay, 58, and two associates already facing criminal charges with a single count of criminal conspiracy, accusing them of improperly funneling corporate donations to Republican candidates for the Texas legislature. (Read the indictment)

If convicted, DeLay could face up to two years in prison and fines up to $10,000, Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle said."
