Easy to pick up where I live. And Papa's reloading equipment, my sewing machine (Can work with hand turning) and some thread/fabric.
My daughter is learning to do welding & metal work. Figures office work and HR experience will not be especially helpful. She is also taking a sudden interest in easy to grow food stuff.
I suggest those who can, garden and learn to can. Learning to can over a camp stove wouldn't be a bad idea. Teach the little kids to plant and grow veggies. Grab seeds!

If you really had to have some sort of survival plan; if things went amiss in a way you coudnln't otherwise imagine, if the world took an upside-down turn and ended up as something you would never recongnize, what would you bring with you? How would you adapt?
If you used your imagination, what would you consider "reasonable" in the stead of something unimaginable?

You can have your stock portfolio there!
I'm asking people to just use their imaginations just in case- what would you do if you needed to escape somehow? The question is only for practical purposes.

Remember, there may be no working ATMs, either due to power failure or being emptied out. Never one to like having much cash around the house or in my wallet, I did take seriously the experience of Katrina evacuees who were not able to get any money when they set out from their homes.
Medicine. If you take any prescription meds., best to have them with you.

That I couldn't re-find -- it isn't solar but of course you could use a seperate panel. It has an LCD TV, sonic bug repeller (never used one of those, can't say if they work) and 120V AC invertor. Tied to a rollup solar panel that would pretty much cover most disaster needs other than, of course, food and shelter.

40. Emergency supplies... every household needs them |
|
put together to grab in a moment's notice! We live near the coast so have to prepare for hurricanes during season, but also in winter power can go out from ice on tree limbs dropping on power lines... and with global warming and all the intense weather everywhere, who knows what can happen??? After Katrina, I depend on no one except me, myself and I. Really ya'll we all need to be prepared individually for God knows what and also be prepared to help each other when it comes. Don't mean to be spooky, just PREPARED!
10 LBS. rice stored in large plastic container canned meats & soups.. stored in large plastic containers 10 lbs. flour stored in large plastic container 5 lbs. shortening (crisco, etc.) 5 lbs. dried beans & peas stored in plastic containers cast iron dutch oven & frying pan 10 gallon containers filled with water and sealed large plastic container filled with paper products small tool box filled with basic tools flashlight and batteries plastic sheeting folded and stored in plastic container for shelter if needed box of fire logs (can be bought by the dz. at Lowes, etc.)
the plastic containers are essential as they protect the food from being contaminated... this is just basic stuff, but you can exist quite a while with just these things if you have to and also if you have animals, you can cook up something nourishing out of it for them as well to survive. They all stack on top of each other and hardly take up any room at all in the garage... sure feels good knowing it there and ready for whatever. Every few months, I'll switch them with new supplies... especially the canned goods to keep them up to date.

I think about it too much also. During the early days of the avian flu scare I heard talk of mandatory quaratines. Scared the crap out of me. If it came down to that I would head for the hills. So to speak. But I still have my tinfoil hat.
