Great Robert F. Kennedy Jr. quote on AAR today: RW'ers
He was brilliant, as usual. It was his Ring Of Fire show on Air America Radio. He was on the topic of Pat Robertson's ignorant statement about God punishing Sharon, and RFK said (Ok, I'm paraphrasing, cause it was quick)

"religion is supposed to be the seeking of the unknown truths in life. It's supposed to be asking the ultimate questions in life. But to the fundamentalists, their religion is the end of that questioning. Their religion answers all questions, leaving nothing to question, or consider. But God gave us all a brain, so we could think for ourselves."

He was totally pissed. It was beautiful. He also went on to say that the fundies never quote Christ, just other passages like some in Deuteronomy. They never quote Christ's statements on forgiveness.

2. True. The fundies skip right over what Jesus said to quote
thing that Paul said. Paul ain't no Jesus.

5. I heard him when I was driving home from work
and he was great tonight. He said a couple of other things that I vowed to remember and pass on to everyone here later, and then immediately forgot them. It's a wonder I can find my way home.

11. All the conservative groups
like Robertson are not Christians since they don't follow Jesus' words. I'm a Christian not because I'm baptized into Christ (which is a huge part as stated in Romans chapter six) but I'm a Christian because I follow Jesus and his words and advice etc. If you follow the Old Testament that is where the Jews are. The New Testament is what you're supposed to follow. The first four books are the gospels of Jesus and the rest are about the first century church getting set up and whatnot. The NT God is about spirituality, forgiveness and being a good and caring person.

13. Holy shit! Where's the Robertson quote? What kind of idiot would say that?
Pat puts the "mental" in "fundamental", once again.

14. Holy shite!
That is freaking brilliant!! That states with crystal clarity an idea that has been floating fuzzily around in my brain for quite awhile about why Fundamentalists are not really spiritual seekers, but are seeking pre-fab answers to all questions. Thinking is just too stressful for them!

20. Right. Modular ethics. Paint by numbers. Wallpaper. No substance
whatsoever. It's the gang to beat all gangs. A national cult.

These are broken, hopeless people, and they are willing to fool themselves into thinking they're cared about by these nutjobs.

The only things Robertson cares about are $$ and ratings.

When my daughter was young, she'd flip through the stations on sunday morning, and when one of them would come on I'd say: "Wait. Wait 3 minutes." She'd say, "For what?" "He's gonna ask you for money." Sure enough, it worked every time.

21. Yep. He was one of the very few to call the Preznit's cards.
"Can anything that comes out of this administration's office be taken at face value?"

Bob's my boy. A real journalist. One of the few.
