FISA court hearing scheduled on Monday...they are demanding answers
Shortly after the New York Times publicized the president's
domestic-spying-without-a-warrant program, over 160,000 Americans
signed a Freedom of Information Act Request along with Governor Dean
in an attempt to determine just why President Bush believed he had the
authority to undermine the Constitution. Earlier today Joe Sandler, DNC
attorney, delivered each and every one of those FOIA requests to the
Department of Justice. Here are some of the photos:

Governor Dean standing next to 160,000 signed Freedom of Information Act
requests at DNC Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

(ROFL...this one cracks me up, look at the poor girl's face)
DNC Attorney Joe Sandler inside the Department of Justice
about to drop off 160,000 Freedom of Information Act Requests.

(Via email)

The Justice Department has to respond within 20 days. But we may
hear from them sooner -- a judge on the secret Foreign Intelligence
Surveillance Court, which exists to provide a crucial check on executive
power while allowing maximum flexibility to our intelligence services,
has demanded the administration explain the supposed legal authority for
this domestic spying program. The hearing will take place on Monday.

If so I remember signing that.

24. I found mine. I had sent it to my DFA folder instead of DNC.
I guess the meeting will be private, or not really publicized.

15. It's hard to find anything about the hearing
Sounds like it's going to be a "private" affair.

Other judges contacted yesterday said they do not plan to resign but are seeking more information about the president’s initiative. Presiding Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, who also sits on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, told fellow FISA court members by e-mail Monday that she is arranging for them to convene in Washington, preferably early next month, for a secret briefing on the program, several judges confirmed yesterday.

Two intelligence sources familiar with the plan said Kollar-Kotelly expects top-ranking officials from the National Security Agency and the Justice Department to outline the classified program to the members.

The judges could, depending on their level of satisfaction with the answers, demand that the Justice Department produce proof that previous wiretaps were not tainted, according to government officials knowledgeable about the FISA court. Warrants obtained through secret surveillance could be thrown into question. One judge, speaking on the condition of anonymity, also said members could suggest disbanding the court in light of the president’s suggestion that he has the power to bypass the court.

29. I went to the NSA web site;
And filed a Freedon of Information Act request of my own. If anyone wants to do it, on the NSA site there is a button on the left for FOIA. Click on it and fill in the form. Careful though. They leave a data mining cookie on your computer that I, for one, would erase as soon as possible. I just tried to get on again and they are having server problems or so many people are trying to get their own FOIA requests.
