What kind of horrible situation in Iraq will finally wake up the US?
Edited on Sun Jan-08-06 09:25 AM by Lastlaughin08
How bad of an incident will it take to get Americans off their lazy asses and demand a stop to this folly in Iraq? It will take something horrific to shock this country to it's senses. The drip, drip, drip of soldiers and Marines dying a few at a time doesn't seem to do anything to stop this insanity. 17 Americans dead in 24 hours does nothing, evidently, as long as it isn't your child.

What would do it - 100 military personnel killed at one time? High ranking military officers killed in Iraq? Mass rioting in the streets of Iraq against the US? The free world demanding we stop this craziness?

What would it take?

Do you have an answer?

I damn sure don't.

4. I share the rage & frustration I hear in your question.

At the demonstration in D.C. there were probably half a million people in the streets - me & lots of other DUers included. I get angrier everyday and I imagine so do a lot of people. I think it is this rage that will finally get through to Congress. We can only pray that it will.

8. until it affects more people directly no one will care
They know this, and for that reason a draft will probably NOT be in the cards

On the other hand, as more jobs are off-shored, more people are layed off, and cannot afford basic essentials, then change will occur

This could take quite some time though. Many people are living on credit, and eventually they will have to pay the piper, i.e. the new bankrupcy laws.

In the short term companies are going to show good earnings because of cheaper labor, but when the consumer stops buying on credit, that is when the sh*t will hit the fan.

They are desperate to move a portion of social security into the stock market because as baby-boomer retire, those that have IRAs or 401Ks will start to draw down, and this will have downward pressure on the stock market, which is why they want to infuse it with new money from social security

10. Sadly, a lot of people don't think 17 dead in a day is a lot.
That's less than 1 soldier per hour don't ya know!:sarcasm:

Most people probably won't really start to get disgusted with what's going on over there until you start seeing headlines of hundreds of soldiers dying per day. It's sad, but I believe it will come to that with the way the violence is escalating there.
