58. Corruption scandal growing too fast - too many big names involved
msm seems like they're selectively covering what exactly is going down -- it's obvious Delay/Abramoff is the center attractions but those rushing to donate the $$$ problem to charities is fucking absurd -- kinda like shoplifting then giving the goods back?

Wonder how much of our unaccounted for tax dollars have gone to these "journalists" under the table?

41. I wonder if that simple explanation is what's going on.
I do believe Matthews is hiding his personal Abramoff connections, but maybe LOTS of them really are taking bribes. I'd been assuming for years that these talking heads are just carrying water for the owners of the networks... but maybe it's more insidious than that.

Because frankly, lately *everything* is more insidious than I'd thought it was...

44. Do you realize what they make?
These guys are pulling down big salaries and they are all on the bullshit book circuit and they all are on the punditocracy circuit. Huge amounts of money. How that is different from a 'bribe' is debatable. There is no need to directly pay them to lie: the quid pro quo arrangement is well understood by all. Those who go astray, such as Mr. Rather, are quickly made examples of to the rest of the journo-whores. This is not some secret cabalistic arrangement. No tinfoil hats required. It is right out in the open.

47. Yes, that's true.
Still, I remember thinking when that news story came out many months ago about a few particular journalists accepting payments for filling their columns with propaganda that that was just the tip of the iceberg, that we'd be hearing that LOTS of people do it. And then that story faded away...

(Sometimes I wonder if some people are just drawn to the sleazy way of doing things -- bribes, blackmail, shady backroom deals -- even if they can do perfectly well without them, just because it makes them feel cool and edgy or because they're just insatiably greedy.)

Then Abramoff turned right around and offered his serv-ices to the Tigua Indians to lobby to get Congress to open the casino back up. "I wish those moronic Tiguas were smarter in their political contributions," Abramoff e-mailed Reed. "I'd love us to get our mitts on that moolah!! Oh well, stupid folks get wiped out."

My bet is that very few democrats, if any, will get caught up in this. The journo-whores will be stupidly trying to explain how the indictees are all repukes but it is a bipartisan scandal.

Note that Jackamoff's contributions of record are not that big. It is going to be the side deals - the trips, the no-show jobs, the faux charities, - all the quid pro quo bullshit that adds up to millions of bucks - that is going to put people in jail.
