Support Bush & Cheney Censure

Help PDA answer Rep. Conyers' call by participating in our National Call for Accountability Day on January 9th. Tens of thousands of PDA members and other concerned citizens will call Members of Congress, urging them to cosponsor three bills: H.Res.635 to create a select committee to investigate and to make recommendations on grounds for impeachment, H.Res.636 to censure Bush, and H.Res.637 to censure Cheney.

This is EASY! No money. No marching. Just pick up the phone. This will make a difference, and John Conyers is asking for our help. Let's give it to him.

Call your Congressperson. The link above will take you to your rep's number. This will take just a couple minutes and it could save your country.

I spent 4 hours on trains yesterday getting myself to Brooklyn to attend the Town Hall Meeting. All I'm asking in return is one phone call, urging your congressperson to support bills H.Res.635, H.Res.636, and H.Res.637, to investigate and censure and impeach Bush and Cheney.

If you really care, you'll make this call. No excuses. This is a representative government, and your call will really help put pressure on the GOP, EVEN IF this resolution doesn't pass. How many times have you said "The Dems never do anything?" Well, we're the dems, and we've got to do something. If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

Please follow that link and make the call. Please keep this kicked.

Amen.

4. Call Representatives at their local offices
The house of reps will not be in session until January 31 so we need to act locally...

Here's the info for local offices
http://visi.com/juan/congress/

Is the senate in session tommorow?

Of course, as Cindy Sheehan writes...we need to do more than make calls and wait patiently...

If I hear one more rendition of "We Shall Overcome" and then watch the vigilers or marchers go home and turn on their TV’s and crack open a brewsky content in the fact that they have done something for peace that day, I am going to scream! We can’t overcome unless we take the proverbial bull by the horns and overcome!

Hold your vigils and marches in relevant places: such as warmongering local Congressional offices. So many Senators and Congresspeople come to mind. Or in front of a recruiting station. Or Federal Buildings. Or military bases. Then instead of going home and cracking open a beer, or uncorking a bottle of wine, sit down and say "we aren’t leaving until you call for an immediate end to the occupation of Iraq." Put your butt on the line for humanity.

Everyone should do this! I get great enjoyment (and relief) in reading DU everyday. Though I don't post much not a day goes by that I don't log on to see what everyone is saying.

Though I have a democratic Rep. - Mel Watt - I think everyone should call even if your rep is a repug. Let them know that this issue is out there and we will be holding them responsible for their action or inaction next November!

an (R) and probably sick of hearing from me. I left a message with his staffer.

Basically, I asked for him to co sponsor the 3 bills because this administration has acted in a reckless, arrogant and illegal manner that undermines our constitution. This is not a partisan matter; it's a matter of saving our democracy.

It feels good to try, anyway. :hi:

18. Suggestions for what to do, if your Congressman is a co-sponsor?

I am very, very, very, very, very, fortunate to live in MA. 99.9% of the time, my Senators or Congressman are either co-sponsors or have come out in favor of what we are advocating. It is wonderful to be able to trust my reps. I send them e-mails and letters thanking them for their stance, but that does not seem to be enough.

Any suggestions on what people in this situation can do to influence the process outside of their state?

Thanks

22. I just did it
Talked to a lady and was very polite. Asked that my congressman Ernest Istook (r) Oklahoma, would support the three resolutions. The lady asked what they were and I told her they were investigations into possible wrongdoings of the President and Mr. Cheney and to see if there were grounds for impeachment. She was nice. I was nice. It will probably be the only call she gets on the topic.

Maybe my wife will call later. She has gone impeachment crazy lately.

42. Please sign Rep. Conyers' petition/letter on his site also
"Stand with Congressman ConyersDemand Censure for Bush-Cheney Misconduct
Investigate Impeachable Offenses

I am taking steps against the Bush Administration’s handling of the Iraq War and its collection of intelligence. I am going to need you to stand with me in fighting for accountability. Join me to demand censure for Bush and Cheney in addition to the creation of a Special Committee to investigate impeaching the Bush Administration for its widespread abuses of power.

I have sought answers from the administration to questions arising from the Downing Street Minutes, the Valerie Plame leak, and scores of other abominable abuses of power that pervade the activities of this White House. 121 Members of Congress and many citizens like you have joined me in asking these questions of the President. I have just completed a thorough review of this administration’s misconduct and have produced a 250-page report that provides evidence suggesting further steps to be taken.

It is time to take bolder measures in our pursuit of justice. This White House has responded to questions about its conduct with misleading statements, obfuscation, and vicious attacks against their critics. We must take the next step towards restoring accountability in our federal government. To this end I have:

• Introduced a resolution of censure for both President Bush and Vice-President Cheney, and;

• I am calling upon Congress to create a select committee similar to the Ervin Committee, which investigated President Nixon’s Watergate crimes. This select committee should investigate those offenses which appear to rise to the level of impeachment.

This administration must be held accountable for its misdeeds. We have considerable work to do and I am going to need your help to make this effort successful. Join me in sending a message to the President, the media, and the American people that we are not going to stand for an imperial presidency any longer.

On the campaign trail, Bush stated that he was well aware that legal spying requires a court order.

Bush, when caught, admits to illegal behavior on national TV and insists that he is above the law and will continue to do as he pleases.

Encourage your congressman to spend some time reading the constitution on their vacation...

The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

26. toll free number
I just called Danny Davis' office. They said they have been getting "quite a few" calls on this today.

I know many people have free long distance these days, but for those who don't here's a toll free number to the Congressional switchboard. You can use it to call anyone in the House or Senate or any of the Congressional Committee offices.

1-888-818-6641

The other toll free number I had is no longer working, but I just used this one. Does anyone know of any other current toll free numbers and/or where to get them? I got these on DU not long ago.

The number posted by Sapphire Blue isn't working - at least not when I just tried it now.

The Congressional toll free numbers don't seem to last for too long a time. Whenever I find that they are disconnected I ask here on DU and someone always comes up with the new ones. What I don't know is where the DU'ers get them from.

Does anyone have any insight into this? Is there a schedule for how long the toll free numbers work? Are they different for different reigons? Where can we go to find the numbers that are active?

Thanks

on edit - I used the number I posted, 1-888-818-6641, a little while ago, so I know it is working.
