How do you have the pictures you put on DU?
I am not too tech savvy but I have tried photobucket.com and can't seem to get the pictures I want saved on it. How do you retrieve your pictures from magazines, etc? I was trying to retrieve pictures from Google Images and they wouldn't upload them. I'm at a loss, but I know there must be a way because I see so many photos on your emails. Not on mine, sad to say...:banghead:

1. When you find a picture, you need to right-click on it and save it
to a folder on your computer, download it there. Then, you get into photobucket, go to the browse button, and browse your downloaded pic files, choose the one you want, and upload it to photo bucket.
You copy the link to the image, and it should post.

2. I use photobucket
once you have an account, you can find pictures on your computer to post there. So if you are surfing around and find yahoo pictures or other pictures, right click save as and put them in a temporary folder on your desktop or wherever else is convenient for you. Then go to photobucket, search for the picture you wanted to post, name it if you like, hit enter and wallah. Your picture will show up in your photobucket folder and the url is in the top box in the series of three boxes below the thumbnail. Using your mouse, click in the box and highlight that url, then post that to your DU post. Putting a space before and after if the photo is including with text will help give a nice clean separation. Preview your post before you post it. If you did it right, you should see your photo!

Hope I helped.

3. If you see a picture online that you want to add to your message...
...right-click it, go to Properties, and copy the address. Then paste that address in your message, and the picture will appear. You can preview your message to make sure it works before posting.

I hope this helps. :)

7. be careful with that
that's how you get broken links. Some websites don't want to be hosting photos for lots of hits. Use photobucket, it's free and super easy, and you can post your pictures and not worry that in a day or two they will become one of these:

or another nastygram

4. simplest way is this...
right click over picture that you wish to paste, goto properties, copy the web address for the picture usually ends in jpg, then right click and paste web address for picture directly in the post/message box here at DU.

I also keep my favorites on a Word doc for easy reference

9. I did it!

Thanks!

I don't know how I did the copy part because I didn't see the copy option.

But...
I went to properties,
when I saw the jpg listing, I made the copy motion over that part
then I opened a new email message and clicked paste ~ and there was Dracula Cheney, right in my message.

I'll try it again.

5. I (being neither savvy or very bright) take a real simple approach
Right-click on the image
Click "properties"
Copy the "Address" (By left-clicking on the address and dragging your cursor over it, right-click on the shaded address and click "copy")
Right-click in DU Message box and click "paste"
Hit "Preview" and you will see if it worked

Took me a while to figure it out.

I still don't know how to download pics from my super-duper camera.
I just keep buying memory things.

8. ahh...you have to plug it into your USB port!
Edited on Fri Mar-31-06 08:56 PM by Breeze54
and possibly install the software on the CD that came with your camera!
If you need a USB cable, you can buy them at any photo or computer supply
store like Best Buy or CompUSA or any like them!

15. Thanks, I have all the stuff and have actually made it happen once
but darned if I can do it again.

Maybe I could get a neighbor kid to do it for me.

Anything computer-related that takes more than about 10 seconds to learn just leaves me cold.

I read DU for at least three years before I figured out how to post here.

Thank you all the same.

Maybe I will have a couple of glasses of wine and give it a shot. I have thousands of pics.

Or an HP! :sarcasm:
I just plug my camera in the back of my computer and the other end in the camera!
Works like a charm!

22. Sigh. I did what you said but
the picture did not appear when I clicked Preview. Only the address itself that I had copied and pasted. I tried twice.

6. if you already have a photobucket account...
do the following:
when you find a picture online that you want to save or post here, right click on it, and select 'Copy Image Location'. go to your photobucket account, and click on 'add images from url'. a box will be there that says 'image url:'. Right click on this empty box, and select 'Paste'. Then click 'Submit'.

The photo will be added to your photobucket account.

If you want to upload pictures already saved on your computer, in your photobucket account, make sure the heading says 'add images from computer', click on it. you will then see 'image:'. Click on 'browse', and this will let you browse your computer for the picture you want to add to your photobucket account. Select the picture on your computer, and then click 'Submit'. The photo will be added to your photobucket account.

Pictures from magazines will only be available to post if they are available online, or if you have scanned them into your computer, and then uploaded them to your photobucket account via your computer.

Hope that helps--

17. Hello CTyankee
I use ImageShack myself but also have a Photobucket account. You need to copy the URL and paste it in your message. For example: copy "". Don't copy the extra "{img}" tags; those are for other forums.

I hope you are well.

21. I think it's my computer
About a year ago our old computer died and we decided to go for a bare bones set up on our computer. I knew we needed Internet access and a basic form of word processing so we skipped Word. That was probably a mistake because I notice I don't have the image options on the "save as type" window that I need. So Photobucket kept rejecting my "Submit" as an error in image type ("not allowed").

I either have to get Word installed or do the right click on Properties over the picture, which seems a little faster anyway. I'd try Imageshack but I suspect I'll go to all the trouble of setting it up only to crash and burn again on the image type issue.

Thanks for the help!

once you upload your picture(s)/media to the net (GFP - or from an existing image one you find online, anywhere) you just...

1. right CLICK on the image
2. select, COPY image/location
3. PASTE into your DU post

that's it ;->

GL :toast:
