Quick question...

Has anyone ever heard or can point me to some information about people that are HIV positive and then miraculously are cured with next to no treatment. Please exclude the miracles from Pat Robertson and company, I am looking for real proof.

There is a debate with my lady and her brother, he is seeing a lady that may or may not be involved with someone who is telling her that they are no longer positive. Basically this person says that at one time their "T" cells were at 0 or there abouts, then when this lady visited him he made a miraculous recovery and now his "T" cells are back to normal and he is healthy again.

Of course I am calling BULLSHIT on this but I thought some facts would help in getting the brother to clearly.

I know nothing about this subject so any concrete information would be great.

I have already told my lady's brother to run for the hills but I figure I would consult my DU resource for help

1. It's my understanding that this has been documented only

There is a group of adults, roughly 10% of the European population, that is resistant to HIV infection due to a mutation that caused their ancestors to survive the Black Death when it swept across Europe a few centuries ago. I was unable to locate any stories of HIV reversal once infection had occurred in adults that wasn't apocryphal and featured old time religion or quackery.

3. His T cells couldn't be at 0. I have heard of some examples in Europe

but he had to have some T cells. And that low would be AIDS. There is no way he is fully recovered. I don't even see how he could be "undetectable."

but if I could give him some facts to counter the story with, it would be helpful.

5. Even if his T cells were back to normal

I'm pretty sure he would still carry the virus. His t-cell load would only mean that he wasn't immuno-suppressed and could be victim of the various viruses, bacteria etc that plague HIV positive individuals.

in Africa, but primarily in children who contracted the virus from their mothers, and I cannot say if these are "for sure" true.

I believe, myself, that it is possible. People with cancer sometimes have miraculous recoveries--why not HIV/AIDS?
