Good News. ...for Downtrodden Lefties waiting for America to WAKE UP!
Edited on Fri Mar-31-06 09:55 PM by KoKo01
I have fundie relatives who have never listened to what they think are my "ravings" and sending them the latest Bush travesty. And, I'm very selective to what I send them...not inundating them enough for them to "de-list" me from their e-mail.

BUT...point is ...I kept saying to them: "please see Clooney's 'Good Night and Good Luck'...because many in our family LIVED through the McCarthy ERA and it's a good History Review.

Well...Lo and Behold they FINALLY rented the darned thing and CALLED ME...saying it was FANTASTIC...What a GREAT MOVIE and was it "really like that back then!" I said...YES! I was a little kid but I remember it very well ..since I grew up in the Segregated South of COURSE I knew what was going on.

They loved it and they are downloading the Video about "9/11" LOOSE CHANGE! Because they finally understand that "something BIG AND BAD is going on with the Bushies...THEY HAVE WAKED UP! and WHAT THEY SEE IS THAT BUSH IS BAD STUFF!

I think this is GOOD NEWS...so I had to post. I'm wondering what they will think about "Loose Change" given that one of them is an American Airline Pilot...... I don't want to PUSH too HARD ..ease them into it...

But..stilll...GOOD NEWS for the folks out there who haven't been engaged the way we DU'ers have been for years...

Sleep Well tonight...because "Middle America is finally WAKING UP!" Slowly...but it's there!

5. what's interesting is...they visited us and we "dragged them" to
Edited on Fri Mar-31-06 10:08 PM by KoKo01
Mike Moore's "Farenheit 9/11" and got accosted in the parking lot of the theater by a Fundie RW'er who said "God didn't want you to see this movie and why are you here?" The guy was drunk but my relative is Southern (who actually broke away from a Fundie Relgious Baptist Cult years ago) and he started to confront him...but then backed away...and we got in our car and I didn't want to get into the whole scenario since I really dragged them to that movie. It was an awkward moment ..and I felt bad for dragging them to see the movie.

They liked the movie...but they didn't do anything political after that. I think they voted for Kerry...but they live in Florida and don't take voting too seriously. When Kerry lost they dropped out and went back to their conservative ways...and I sort of stopped sending them stuff until the last few months where I urged them to go SEE or RENT "Good Night and Good Luck."

I was so happy to hear a phone call from them trying to re-engage with me after all this time...I had to post.

I think it's a very good sign for the "re-wakening" of folks as to how BAD things REALLY ARE. They tipped their toes in the water voting for Kerry/Edwards and when that didn't work out they "backed off" and hid away. If they are coming out this early before "Mid-Terms" it might mean that they've seen the hideous Bush trashing of AMERICA and will be with US once again!

Fingers Crossed, here....

2. Good job, using cultural "touchstone" of McCarthyism with deep personal
resonance to these people. Very smart. Smart of Clooney, and you.

9. I know...that old expression: "Slowly but Surely" sort of applies if one
is looking for some good news. We have so much bad news ..it's good to understand, I guess, that many are not so "quick thinking" as the rest of us ...or those smart, quick brained "Cassandra's" who saw it all early here and have been fighting against it for sooooooolong.....

:hi:

4. I was creeped out by it
because it reminded me why to this day I have trouble signing my name to ANYTHING.

My parents were the first on the block to get a TV so that my mother could watch those hearings, white knuckled and shaking with rage. She'd had a very brief flirtation with the party when they'd been the only ones standing against Hitler in the 30s but fled when she realized what Stalin was up to. She really was terrified that her name would be called and my pop and I would be ruined right along with her.

I don't think it's possible to overstate the climate of fear that man caused, when everybody knew they were vulnerable if some guy down the block held a grudge and lied to the FBI out of spite.

It's why I want to rip Coulter's face off for suggesting that man can be "rehabilitated." He was a monster. So is "she."

8. It was a VERY DARK TIME...and anyone who remembers it
thinks about and remembers it with :scared:

It reminds me of NOW! But, I think we can work through it as long as folks keep waking up out of their "deep sleep."

I didn't think think I would have to live through it TWICE in my lifetime...and it scared me enough as a very little kid to always be aware...and that's probably why I'm on DU TODAY! BECAUSE...I REMEMBER!!!

10. Better News ... it's been happening since 2000
I've "converted" a number of Republicans, Fundies, and other hard-ass Bush stalwarts since then. The first "conversion" was a very RW woman, a family friend, who was seriously angered by the election disgrace at the end of 2000.

It has been happening all along, but it's only reached "critical mass" since last summer. The response to Hurricane Katrina marked the change-over point.

When you look at it from the perspective of history, though, it has been a remarkable shift, and has happened remarkably quickly.
