Reasons NOT to Shop at Wal-Mart
I was just outside warming my car up to go out and my neighbors were going in the house with Wal-Mart bags (they are very old and political indifference set in years ago). After small talk I said quite casually without thought;

I don't shop there because their large bags don't fit as liners for my kitchen garbage can (Target's do and are thicker from what I could see).

They said "The girl gave us a hard time about using the large bags. She said the small ones should be just fine.

Wal_Mart, deciding for you what bags to pack your stuff into after you buy it from them.

1. My wife is getting a HUGE Wal-Mart gift card from her employer
Her company is offering unlimited overtime until at least the end of this month, and for every hour worked she gets $5 in Wal-Mart gift cash in addition to overtime pay. We estimate that she'll have over $500 in Wal-Mart money by the time it's all said and done.

We're going to go in there and shop until we drop, but I promise you that once that experience is finished we will stick to our standard practice of avoiding them like the plague. I only wish they gave her a choice of retailers, or would have gone with Target or even Best Buy instead.

13. I think you can go in spend $1 and get the rest in change
I would try that before spending all the money there.

2. When I worked at Toys R Us...
They one day decided that they were spending too much money on large bags, so they told us to use small bags unless absolutely necessary. I didn't listen, of course. I actually started using large bags even when someone only had one small item (unless the customer asked me for a small bag). Have to stick it to the man, after all. :D

I have a gift card but will use it all up and spend more. That's where I get all my household items: cleaning stuff, lawn stuff, garbage bags, etc. Once in a while I'll browse their paperback book section, as their discount is about 40% off the publisher's price. Some good DVD finds from time to time as well.

5. Buy gas at Wal Mart
I read this summer that Wal Mart makes very little money selling gas and might even lose money. So if you really don't like Wal Mart, then use those gift cards to buy gas.

8. Well, I think you might be surprised at the wholesale prices...
and the actual production costs of most of the things that you buy, anywhere.

10. I sell stuff wholesale.
Something that cost $5 to produce should be $10-15 retail. WalMart will charge $30.

11. Not all things allow for the same mark-ups
Cars and trucks, electronics, huge machinery. A million dollar cost crane is not marked up 100%. The larger the dollar volume, the smaller the average mark-up.

I looked at a car this afternoon. Costs $18,890 sticker. Costs the dealer $17,983.

About 5%. Not much room there.

Concerning Wal_Mart, we should probably measure it in pints of human blood spilled.

7. I was in Miami over Christmas
and my sister went to Walmart to find something she couldn't find in Target, but I refused to go inside and walked the carpark looking for W bumper stickers. I didn't find one. I only shopped in Blue Stores under DU orders:D :D

9. While visiting my mom at Christmas
She isn't very political, but she is a Democrat, I needed some Nyquil and stuff.
I asked where the closest place was, she gave me the directions and told me to make sure I didn't go to WalMart because they had obscene business practices.
She even told me she was part of their neighborhood effort to block the building of one of the stores.
I do have to say that I was shocked.
Many times in the area that I live in, I don't have a choice but to go to WalMart.
It is nice that my non-political Mom keeps up with things and uses her choices wisely.

14. I shopped there ONCE. Bought a beef roast...it was so bad
that my kids actually thought they were eating chicken.

I've never seen yellow beef before.

I have never been back and never will. Life is too short to go to Walmart.

15. I hate buying anything from Walmart.
I do not unless i have to. Sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do though. I started boycotting them a long time ago because i felt oppressed by them one time.

I went shopping there in like '97. Had gotten my tax return, so we went to Wally world and bought some electronics. I had went in my usual attire of dirt torn work clothes. Upon leaving i was checked thoroughly. I was so embarrassed, they even wanted me to empty my pockets! Now i could see showing the a receipt, but going through all my stuff and wanting me to empty my pockets etc.

I got real raw on them right there, and told them if they wanted to search me they better call a cop! And while they were at it they could give me a full refund because they could have all their crap back.

I returned everything, and had a few choice words for the manager. Since that time i have only set foot in their store maybe 2 times. And those times were due to the fact i am very poor and had to have over the counter medicine for my kids and their generic Pedialyte.

I got a small taste of what i have heard black folks have had to withstand. Making snap judgments about your purchasing power and intentions based solely on looks.

Fuck Walmart! May every damned one of them burn to the ground( of course with no people in them).
