Concert for Condasleeza
From The Scotsman

A concert for Condoleezza

JAMES KIRKUP POLITICAL EDITOR

AFTER a day spent valiantly trying to ignore the hundreds of peace campaigners who gathered to protest at the visit of Condoleezza Rice yesterday, Jack Straw must have drawn a sigh of relief as America's most powerful woman settled down in Liverpool's Philharmonic Concert Hall for a medley of classical favourites.

But the Foreign Secretary was set to find himself beset by diplomatic embarrassment beyond his own worst imaginings, as singer Jennifer John began a rendition of John Lennon's peace song Imagine - then switched to the late Beatle's most famous anti-war anthem Give Peace a Chance.

Liverpudlian singer John, who had introducing the song by acknowledging "the people demonstrating outside peacefully" said she had deliberately staged a protest. She said: "There was no way I would be prepared to sing at this event purely for entertainment value. I felt it would have been immoral for me to not make a stand.

<snip>

But the impromptu rendition of Give Peace a Chance, which echoed the earlier singing of more than 1,000 campaigners who had gathered at the foot of Liverpool Catholic Cathedral for a rally against Dr Rice's visit, left Mr Straw's face as red as the balloons carried by the protesters.

2. I just love the British people - they are wonderful.
Condi needs to be uncomfortable. At the very least. What she is participating in is illegal and wrong. She should not have a moment's peace until she puts a stop to it.

5. Writer using the word "valiantly" might want to look up that meaning
"AFTER a day spent valiantly trying to ignore the hundreds of peace campaigners who gathered to protest at the visit of Condoleezza Rice yesterday..." (Jack Straw)

There was nothing brave or courageous about Straw's behavior, IMHO.

Jennifer John was the one who acted "valiantly."

We should claim this! And give props, of course, to the author.

I love how the British are so cool about their manner of dissing... quite proper, don't you think?

They would never be so crass as to say it, but hey, I'm 12 generations removed so I will!

Hey, Condi... Britain hates you, yeah, yeah, yeah!

Kindasleazy and company embarrassed (pissed no doubt) at a song about peace. Imagine that. Their mentality may have killed Lennon, but not his music. Nasty rat-bastard fascists.
