BUSH ADMINISTRATION POLICY ON BELARUS IS JUST PLAIN HYPOCRITICAL
ISSUES IN PERSPECTIVE

BUSH ADMINISTRATION POLICY ON BELARUS IS JUST PLAIN HYPOCRITICAL

Many Americans may be unfamiliar with Belarus. It has not been in the news much until this weekend, but it is an important country and one from where millions of Americans, including this writer, trace their ancestry. Belarus is one of the former Soviet republics and has become a sovereign nation since the break up, with its capital in Minsk. My great grandmother came from Bobruisk, a suburb of Minsk.

Belarus is a country with a mixed economy.

In matters of religion both Christianity and Judaism are respected and freedom of religion is unquestioned. The Jewish communities of Belarus are active and dynamic and problems are rare.

The country is now all of a sudden considered a pariah by the Bush administration because of supposed electoral irregularities. Sanctions are being planned against the country of over 10 million and its leaders are being banned from travel here, which I believe is a drastic over reaction, despite problems Belarus admittedly has.

But compare the treatment of Belarus with that of the United Arab Emirates.

No person may apply for citizenship in the UAE unless they are Sunni Muslims.

Christian missionaries who proselytize Muslims are jailed and expelled. Three missionaries from Georgia were caught giving Bibles to a Muslim not long ago and were arrested and not released until an international outcry was made. (See the Christian missionary site on the Internet at persecution.org)

No Jewish synagogues exist in Dubai or the United Arab Emirates and no Jews are known to be living there because they would be arrested. or deported. Dubai recently hosted American Klansman David Duke and invited him to hold seminars to help deny the reality of the Holocaust.

Dubai actively supports the Arab League boycott of Israel and two of the September 11 hijackers came from the Emirates, of which Dubai is a member state.

Dubai regularly sends money to Hamas to aid the suicide bombers of that organization who are perhaps the world's most vicious terrorists, blowing up little children in pizza parlors and on buses.

But the Bush administration places no sanctions on Dubai and the UAE.

Terrorism when supported by the United Arab Emirates is not a terrorist in the Bush administration's oil drenched brains.. Instead, the lying hypocrites in Washington falsely claim that Dubai is an ally in the war on terrorism when it is financing it.

Dubai was rewarded for its years of evil conduct with the now lapsed port management contracts that our Congressional leaders, including Republicans, wisely opposed.

Belarus did nothing to hurt America or its allies and is now a pariah.

Other nations have no elections but we do billions in trade with them, such as Communist China and the tyrants in Saudi Arabia.

But Belarus is somehow held to a different standard and different rules.

Unlike Dubai, the Bush family apparently has no business there. They ought to get some deals going with Neil Bush and I am sure things will get better for them.

1. The author misses another hypocrisy
Decrying possible stolen elections abroad while stealing them at home.

It's like Ukraine all over again
