U.S. Flag Banned Amid Racial Tensions
Someone ought to send this to freeperville.

LONGMONT, Colo. (April 1) - Dozens of high school students protested a temporary school policy forbidding students from displaying the U.S. flag - as well as flags from other countries - amid racial tensions following immigration rallies.
.....
Skyline High School Principal Tom Stumpf said American flags were brazenly waved in the faces of Hispanic students and in one case a Mexican flag was thrown into the face of another student.

"When it involves the American flag and its abuse in vilifying other people, we simply will not tolerate it," Stumpf said. "They were using the symbol derisively as misguided patriotism."

1. When you deal with kids you sometimes have to take away
their stuff. Too bad anyone would use the symbol of their country to hurt others. I'd say the principal knows how to deal with childish behavior.

2. I think this was a good decision...
...although likely not one that will really effect much change. Still, when people begin using their symbols to provoke others they need to stop and reconsider what the symbolism stands for.

4. I'm glad to hear that they ALSO banned the flags of other nations.
I wouldn't be able to sit quietly if they JUST banned the American flag, on American soil, but allowed others.

I do understand the anger of some of those students. I get angry when people of other nations want to come here for the "goodies", but don't want to become American. I get angry when everybody defines themselves as _______-American, rather than just AMERICAN. It leads to divisiveness and balkanization, and will bring us to a bad end. We don't necessarily have to have a melting pot, but we DO need a good long-simmered stew where the flavors blend together.
