Republican Truth as Opposed to Democratic Truth |
|
Page 130 of James Risen’s “State of War,” (when the SHTF in post-war Iraq and the reports from CIA case officers started to come in on the deteriorating situation)* “The NSC wanted to know whether of not the CIA officer was a Republican or Democrat.” It would seem that the Republicans only want what cohered to a preconception of their truth. It made me wonder just how accurate is their truth?
* Para emphasis is mine.
Republican truth or Democratic truth:
Republican truth: Nothing but dead enders, which will cease once Saadam is caught. Democratic truth: Lack of sufficient troops, plus lack of planning for post-war is creating civil war.
Republican truth: Iraq poses immediate nuclear threat to US Democratic truth: We don’t know, but is more than likely that Iraq does not have nuclear program.
Republican truth: Everyone will gain from tax cuts. Democratic truth: The rich will gain substantial tax cuts, all the rest will get crumbs.
Republican truth: The middle-class is doing just peachy-keen. Democratic truth: The middle-class is suffering from stagnant wages, loss of pension plans, high medical cost, things are not looking good for them.
Just a few examples of Republican versus Democratic truth: Who has the better tack record? Can you think of a few more comparisons?

Power and the Glory. In the days in which now live, I sometimes feel as conflicted as my namesake.
