Afghan high profile officials involved in drug smuggling
Yeah, we've done wonders over there...thank goodness we invaded their country and got the people a decent government. :sarcasm:

Kabul Police Chief has said that several drug smugglers who were arrested by the airport police have been freed by the Interior Ministry.
According to BBC, the Kabul Chief, General Aminullah said that some high profile Afghan officials were involved in drug smuggling.

The drug smugglers who were arrested during the last three months were shown on a TV channel. They were freed soon after their arrest.

The Kabul Police Chief said that unfortunately some people were released on the first day when they were handed over to the Interior Ministry.

The Kabul Chief further added that some high-ranking officials were involved in drug smuggling. Former Interior Minister had also hinted involvement of high profile officials in drug smuggling.

1. And some Afgan high government officials are warlords who get their
fortune from drugs.

How in the hell could anyone think that this wouldn't happen?

It's the most dynamic sector of the economy. It's more than half the Afghan GNP.

It's a real conundrum for the West. Do you attack the opium and reap chaos? Hmmm, seems like people have to choose: Do you want a war on drugs or a war on terror? Doesn't seem like you can have both at the same time.

In Peru in the late 1980s, the US got all pissed off because Peruvian generals weren't prosecuting the drug war hard enough. But the Peruvians had figured out that wiping out the coca crops just drove people into the hands of Sendero Luminoso. Better coca than crazed Maoists, they decided.
