...I just can't see things ever coming to such a pass. And, if the ACLU intends for some of that to be tongue-in-cheek, the neocons probably won't see it that way. If anything, they'll use it as evidence that the Left is wigging out.

I was someone who believed a National ID card was a good solution to a lot of problems. It could all but eliminate the illegal immigration problem, you wouldn't need a no fly list, convicted sex offenders couldn't get lost in another state, etc.
After watching that ad, I realize what they mean by "the slippery slope!"

They've always been diehard defenders of the first amendment, but loosey goosey on interpreting some of the constitution's constraints to expanding federal authority, such as the ninth and tenth amendments, the federalis straying beyond specifically listed constitutional powers, making the commerce clause into a license to regulate everything, etc.
Are these lawyerfolk having second thoughts about their own contributions to the slippery slope?
