Arrest Warrant Sought for Rep. McKinney????
Why do they need a warrant? Isn't she cooperating?

WASHINGTON - U.S. Capitol Police on Monday asked a federal prosecutor to approve an arrest warrant for Rep. Cynthia McKinney after she tangled with a uniformed officer last week.

"We are working with Capitol Hill police to fully understand and appreciate the incident," principal assistant U.S. Attorney Channing Phillips told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.

Citing the ongoing investigation, Phillips declined to say whether the referral included a recommended charge against the six-term Democrat or when a warrant for her arrest might be issued.

In a statement, Capitol Police said it "has referred its investigative findings to the U.S. attorney." The department must acquire approval from U.S. Attorney Kenneth L. Wainstein before it can ask a judge to issue an arrest warrant on assault or other charges.

1. Ok - at some point republican force behind this....
... needs to be investigated...

If republicans are sic-ing the cops on Democrats, then there's going to be a VERY large problem....

3. Of course they're targetting her because she's a dem.
And because she's black. And because she's a woman. And because they've successfully labeled her unstable in the past. All these things make her vulnerable and they're going to exploit this as the latest great distraction.
:grr:

donation. She is going to need all the help we can give her.

35. The surveillance tape
now under lock and key, will show a hurried, multi-tasking female CONGRESSPERSON being grabbed by the arm from behind and reacting. THAT is what TPTB DO NOT want the American people to see, knowing they can rely on Americans' worst racist instincts to help take down a "thorn in their side."

4. This is absurd beyond belief. The damn Capitol cop should
have been able to recognize her on site. When I worked on the Hill thirty years ago, they knew all 535 members of Congress.

And Cynthia McKinney, a pretty, young BLACK, FEMALE Member of Congress would hardly be difficult to spot.

Something is going on here.

They've all been asked to stop if they're not wearing their pins.

Sorry, but that's bullshit.

13. It's not bullshit that the Capitol cops used to know the Members
on sight, it's a fact. Of course over the past ten years the Repubs have been running the show, and God only knows what types are now manning the force.

9. Co-operating with the
police is the absolute surest way to get charged with something. Always exercise your right to keep your lying (according to the police)mouth shut and the cops out of your living room. And car.

15. Police Union speaks
The Union (Fraternal Order of the Police) is backing him bigtime.
I wish I knew if they had seen the video. I fear they must have to make such a broad statement.

"There was no excessive force here," said Lou Cannon, president of the Washington, D.C., chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police, which represents Capitol officers. "If she's trying to turn this into a racial issue, people should ask, 'Why is she doing this?' This is an insult to all police officers."

The FOP's national board, meeting Friday in Nashville, unanimously approved a motion commending the Capitol Hill officer, who has not been identified, and condemning McKinney, who was stopped because the officer didn't recognize her.

29. video
The charges, if they are filed against her, could include felony assault on a police officer or simple assault, which is a misdemeanor. Before police can make an arrest, the U.S. Attorney's office has to approve the warrant and then notify the U.S. Justice Department because the warrant involves a sitting member of Congress.

U.S. Capitol Police said there is surveillance video of the confrontation between the officer and McKinney, but they say the video will not be released. McKinney released a statement saying she deeply regrets the incident, but was rushing to a meeting when the officer failed to recognize her. "Unfortunately, the Police Officer did not recognize me as a Member of Congress and a confrontation ensued," the statement read.

some scandal around a congresswoman who started the incident cause she didn't think she was getting enough "respect" or that she was too special so she doesn't have to comply with the rules.

I'm reserving my judgement until all the facts come out, but it's starting to look more and more like political maneuvering.

34. Believe what you want.
The rules say she must wear her congressional pin and id. She admitted that she did not have it on. That being the case she should have at least had the common sense or courtesy to stop and check with the security officer before barging on through. Had she done that she would have had no problem what so ever.

The capital police are there to protect both sides and the least she could do is show them some common courtesy.

there might not even have been an investigation. I guess though that getting a make-up artist to make her look like Big Dick would have helped in that event.

What a coward this guy is. Seriously. I would be ashamed if I were him. He not only can't properly do his job, he is "outraged" that someone he touched touched him back!

Great security force those Repukes scored. Kinda like their FEMA crew! All dressed for their parts but too much of fuckups to actually DO THEIR JOBS!

37. According to local Atlanta news
the police sent info of the incident to the US attorney as is the regular procedure - but supposedly the officer in question said he doesn't wish to press assault charges.

I have no idea of the validity of that information. Just relating what was on our local Atlanta news.
