Alito - Not abortion....Executive Power
Edited on Sun Jan-08-06 05:45 PM by LeftHander
the right is trying to smoke screen the real critical issue around Alito with Abortion rights.

Alito needs to be challenged by Dems on Executive authority.

If Alito is ready to roll the U.S. Constitution over for Bush's power grab then he needs to be fillibustered.

NPR is trying to keep this issue in the public eye but one can bet the MSM will play the Abortion debate card.

1. The court(s) are the last piece
of their puzzle to fall into place. If they get their judges nothing they do will be deemed illegal.

2. Ted Kennedy was all over this today on This Week
He hammered on the expansion of executive power until Stephanopolis cut him off and changed the subject.

3. Think of Alito as the third letter in PNAC
Once he is in place they move to the last letter: Control.

Regardless of what they say, in the end it's all about control.

I'm sure that they would be happiest if martial law could be made permanent.

4. Alito wrote a legal memo in '86 supporting Exec. signing statement as an
expansion of Executive power in "law shaping" capabilities.

7. This is the real deal....
:::IF::: Alito acends to the SCOTUS then challenges to Bush's executive authority will rapidly move up through the courts and validated. The only possibility ofr change is to turn the Congress over to Democratic control. IMpeachment would then be required but the GOP will stand behind the "Rule of Law" and will leave the impeachment process like Clintons....no conviction in the Senate.

Bush CANNOT BE ALLOWED to select anyone to the SCOTUS.

The GOP leadership and Administraion must fall to corruption and impeachment before SCOTUS rules in favor of Bush authority.

If this doesn't happen....the great experiment will be over.

American Democracy will be finished.

rulings on civil rights, the environment, executive power are where this fight needs 2 be. Planned Parenthood, NOW & NARAL should back off and let environmental & civil liberty groups lead this charge. alito is a neo-con thru & thru - have you noticed he even walks around w/ a smirk?!?

8. Amen! If this nomination goes forward, the coup will be complete.
Abortion will be the least of our worries if this is allowed.

10. with what's his name being 85 years old
bush may very well get another nominee besides alito.

this makes me shake my head -- because then it makes -- tactically go back to 00 and 04.

democrats need to study the books -- raw aggression doesn't hurt when you're competing.

11. Yes. Alito would move us into a dictatorship rather than a democracy,...

,..or, at least, something resembling a democratic republic.

I think we've lost quite enough of our "democracy", thank you very much. There is no such thing as a "benevolent" leader. Our founders knew that. Hell, we used to know that.
