WHO is part of the 39% supporting Hillary Clinton running for
President? Are they just polling Repugs? I am so tired of hearing that Hillary IS the frontrunner by double digit numbers. Democrats wouldn't be polling that way, NO WAY!

Stop shoving HC down our throats! She can't WIN in a general election!

What poll is this? Wolf just cites some poll without any background.

It's like those 4 out of 5 dentists who prefer sugarless gum for their patients who chew gum, so buy trident. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?!!

5. They're morons who recognize the name
and that's all it is at this point, name recognition.

She's a sure loser. A ball of cat hair could beat her.

3. Problem is NO ONE ELSE is ever mentioned as a possible candidate by
the "mainstream media", by and large.

Not Clark.

Not Feingold.

Not John Edwards.

Not Gore or Kerry.

Etc. etc.

7. Wolf on CNN just cited some poll to show how low
Edited on Mon Apr-03-06 06:34 PM by indie_voter
Edwards, Kerry and Gore (can't remember the number, in the teens) polled in comparison. However no mention what poll he was citing. Or even if Kerry, Edwards or Gore were choices in the same poll which shows Clinton polling so high.

9. Yes but they never have an actual news story about those people.
It's one thing to cite some poll showing Hilary has the most name recognition at this point, which is basically all it proves.

All DUers have to consider is that Howard Dean was considered the "inevitable nominee" last time, and Gary Hart I think had this mantle with an earlier election.

So the "inevitable nominee" conventional wisdom hasn't been all that inevitable.

6. 39% are not "supporting" her at this time.
39% are responding "Clinton" because it's the only name on the list they know much about (in many cases).

10. The average Joe Democrat will vote for her.
Because he's been told she is going to be the candidate for years and they just don't know any better. Most people are not like us, they do not follow any of the politics closely and they go along with the crowd. Do you think Kerry would have been the nominee if all Democrats really knew the candidates or followed politics closely? I don't. All you have to do is win early in the primaries and you become "the guy" because everyone else just follows along. That's why I hate our primary system. We should all go on the same day with no one state setting the course. I think you would get a better sense of who the people want that way because there is no influence. Howard Dean probably would have run away with the nomination last time if we all went on the same day.

The Democrats I hear who want Hillary are the ones who basically have no clue about politics. Everyone else who wants her to run are the Republicans, so they can kill her.

She's a known quantity - they've smeared her as best they could and she's still there.

She's about the only Dem with the will, wits and power to fight back.

but she is far from the bottom of my list.

hillary is for me a little too corporate and a little too pro military for my taste but she is a real democrat in most everything that counts.

and i think she would win a clean election hands down.

I've NEVER seen an internet poll and I've never been polled by telephone or on the street either that asked that question. I happen to agree with those that suggest the THUGS are doing the polling AND are the poll-ee's!

16. republicans want to barr any democratic from running--they believe, they
think it is a sure bet that if she runs she will lose the election and they won't have us blaming the diebold machines.

they used the same tactic on janet reno ... they talked jim mcbride until they were blue in the face, they had the people convinced that he was the one to beat jeb bush... mcbride got elected with the help of the diebold machines and McBride ended up being no competition for jeb bush and they knew it.

be ware of republican unmitigated crap.

18. well...you know...
maybe they support her. Hell, I don't, but I'm not the general population. I am a very liberal democrat. The more centrist democrats might very likely support her. Just because the polls don't support our candidate (or support one we don't want, since I dont have a candidate yet) doesn't mean there's a vast conspiracy theory

19. Me.
I'm supporting her, so far, unless Gore gets in the race. Contrary to what you say, I feel she's got the best chance to win in the general of any of the main candidates, and I have no idea why you think Dems would feel otherwise. Dems on DU, maybe, since there has been such a huge disinformation campaign here to make her look conservative, but outside of DU Dems have a more realistic opinion of her.

I could change my support rather quickly as things change, but it sure won't be because I fall for that "Hillary is a conservative" bullshit. Her voting record is one of the most liberal in the Senate.

20. That's why they're shoving her down our throats
Because they know she can't win.

They did the same thing last time around. In reality, they were terrified that Howard Dean was going to run. Instead they acted like that was what they wanted, so the Democrats sent in Kerry.

Time to ignore the Grand Old Psychopaths and pick our own.

not give Bush the authority to go to war!! I may be forced to vote for Hillary but I would rather not.

I really want someone who will do more than pay lip service to making us energy independent. Same for global warming.

If we have to drive 55 mph again so be it. If we were energy independent we would have never have gone into Iraq--but I guess everyone here has that figured out already.

I don't need the Republican media telling me who I will or won't vote for. Personally, I don't see her winning the primaries, but we could do a lot worse than Hillary.

24. Well, few at DU support her, but
DU obviously doesn't reflect the Democratic majority overall.

I won't vote for her in the primary, but will in the general election if she gets the nod by the majority of Dems.

I would venture to guess those here at DU that won't even vote for her in the general are the gross minority; I know it doesn't seem that way to some here with all the vociferous posturing, but it would be nice for DU to tune in to reality once in a while.

25. Its the MSM's choice. They need controversy to get ratings...
At best its a straw man designed by talking heads like Tweety to "stir the pot". The other choice is Regan republicans that voted for * and are looking for *-lite (Hillary). Doesn't really matter to me at this point, its all hot air. Let's see where we are heading into the primaries in 2 years. If she is a contender then I guess I will have to work that much harder to get someone else nominated.

29. I'd vote for her if she is the Dem candidate. I will look at all
primary candidates and she may or may not get my vote but if she is on the ticket for the General election I will vote for her happily - and I won't apologize to anyone for it either. Hillary is an excellent candidate if you don't buy into the reichwing smear machine's BS. Is she the best at this point in time? There are things she has supported that I don't like but there are more actions that I do like. We are still two years away from the primary fight. A lot can happen between now and the convention so let's keep our powder dry.

Threads like this is the equivalent of Dems getting in a circle and unloading a six shooter into each other. Why do we let the MSM or the repugs define our discussions? She is not running right now so why do we give one iota what the talking heads are yammering about? Every time they push this sh*t we buy into it. I say ignore the polls, ignore the repug pundits and ignore our need to know today who is running in '08. We have so much work to do before then.

30. I say paying attention to today will help take care of tomorrow
It is good to try to read between the lines of what the MSM is doing and ask why are they doing it.

Just because MSM IS talking about Clinton, lets me know that somebody is really pushing Hillary and wanting to shove this idea down dumb asses throats for a reason, maybe it is because if it is said often enough it will become true and accepted. We need to be diligent about safegaurding against letting others pick our candidates and that is what is happening, somebody is trying to pick the Dem Candidate for us AGAIN.
