Bush league opener
Reds stumble, fumble, crumble in 16-7 loss to Cubs

http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060403/SPT04/304030008/1078/rss12

The president left early and Reds fans followed soon after.

The Chicago Cubs rallied for three big innings to beat Cincinnati 16-7 in a drearily cold and windy opener at Great American Ballpark.

"You'd rather have everything go wrong on one day than things go wrong on a bunch of days,” Reds center fielder Ken Griffey said of the loss. “Hopefully we got it all that stuff out the way."

The game marked the most runs allowed by the Reds in an opener since 1877. They lost that game 24-6 to Louisville.

I loved the headline on this article! and the implication that chimpy's pitch sure didn't help.

2. Cubs win!!! Cubs Win!!!
It was a beautiful thing!!!

I thought * wearing the Reds jacket was pandering to Ohioans, after all, they gave him a second term. That wouldn't have happened in blue Chicago.

I didn't hear any booing from the crowd when he took the field -- but I think they had the crowd mikes muffled.

3. Too Bad They Don't Have A Dome!
Here in the Twin Cities we have the Metrodome so that our teams can play indoors in inclement weather. There have been many games that would have been washed out by rain or snow if the Twins did not have an indoor stadium. In Cincinnati, the crowd was gone well before the game ended because of the weather and the lopsided score. But the Twins fans stay well into a game even when the team is far behind. And that's because the stadium protects against any form of bad weather and provides a comfortable atmosphere for the fans.

Tonight's NCAA College Basketball Championship game will be played in the Indianapolis Dome. This facillity also provides a weather proof arena that is conducive to a good sports atmosphere. No wonder that it has twice been selected as the venue for the final game.

There is talk here in the Twin Cities about having to spend tax dollars to buy the corporate fat cats who own the Twins and the Vikings two new stadiums despite the presence of the Metrodome. While the majority of the voters have voted down any further use of public monies for new stadiums, those corporate fat cats continue to lobby for more of our dollars. While Bush gave trillions in corporate welfare to those fat cats, many local politicians (including, unfortunately, a few Democrats) have joined in the lobbying effort to give those billionaire team owners more corporate welfare in the form of new stadiums. My hope is that the politicians will honor their obligations to fulfill the will of the people by refusing any further public financing of baseball and football stadiums. If these politicians have any true principle, they will obey our mandate.
