Bumper Stickers: All out or None?
I have never put a bumper sticker on my car, and if I did it would be something to indicate my affilation with the left or against a particular president.

My car is non-descript. The DU bumpersticker is in the glove compartment.

Why? I am afraid of road rage, vandalism, etc. happening to me. I live in a liberal city, but that doesn't include everyone. I got a "defend America - impeach Bush" bumper sticker yesterday and part of me wishes I had the nerve to use it but I really am afraid of the reactions.

Tell me I'm wrong!

56. You can also buy them locally at
Joann Fabrics or Michaels sells them in 8.5x11 sheets which you can cut to size. Staples and Office Max have printable ones (but the print quality/durability is not so hot on one and the magnet is not very strong on the other).

Hobby Lobby probably has them too - but I try not to shop at that fundamentalist haven (but it was fun to go in there with a bunch of gay guys once and buy out their fantastic bandanna selection ...)

7. I live in NW Arkansas
and work in one of the most conservative towns (there's a KKK faction out in the country nearby). I had Kerry/pro Democratic stickers all over my car before the election, and my bumper stickers now say "Peace is Patriotic" along with "Democraticunderground.com". Even when I drive to Springfield MO (home of John Ashcroft, the Blunts, etc), I've never gotten hauled over. And I have been harrassed on the road before-no bumper stickers then, the creeps knew I was an environmentalist and tried to harrass me on the way to work. (Solved that by having a friend who drove an official state vehicle to follow me home-when they saw that, they stopped)

I drive in NYC every day with quite a few anti Bush Stickers. Last fall I got "pulled over" three times by the NYPD. Al three times the officers wanted to know where I got my "Lick Bush" sticker. I also have Impeach Bush.....Forget Saddam, Where's Osama and "Protect,Preserve and Defend the Constitution-Vote Democrat" stickers on my car.....I get tons of thumbs up lately and absolutely no harassment in NYC.

Impeach Bush, Proud liberal, Bush Family Values (with bombs), Air America and I don't even know what else. I think it's a little over the top and makes us look a bit nuts, but what can you do? No one's ever bothered me, although we did get keyed once. It wasn't bad, though and he was able to fix it. I can't say for sure if the bumper stickers were why. We do get a rare thumbs up, so I'd have to say that on balance we've gotten more positive feedback than negative.

18. I'm in the west 'burbs of Cleveland and I always have one on my car.
I change them when I get bored with them. In the past year:

"Somewhere in Texas a village is missing an idiot"

"God was my copilot but we crashed in the mountains and I had to eat him"

"We're all wearing the blue dress now"

"Be nice to America or we'll bring Democracy to your country"

I've never had a problem other that a couple of rude gestures. It's great fun to look in my rear view mirror at stoplights and watch people's reactions as they read them.

27. I've been using magnetic stickers from NorthernSun for years
I can change them according to what I am pissed off about on any given day. Lately though, the 3 on my truck are:

"America: One Nation Under Fraud"
"Who Would Jesus Bomb?" and
one with a picture of Duh-Bya saying "Like a Rock..Only Dumber!"

I got some laughs with the last one today (in Maryland). I suggest you check out www.northernsun.com for inexpensive magnetic backing and great stickers.

29. I prefer to keep my driving space apolitical.
So I don't have any political bumper stickers, though I did have one for a local race for a little while. It's not really out of fear, just that I dislike trumpeting my opinions.

I'm just not big on ads, in general. Though I'm often tempted, and enjoy the stickers on other cars a great deal...

32. I worry very little here in Eastern Iowa, but get anxious when we travel
I have only one sticker (a replacement for my Kerry-Edwards one) which reads: Bush bin Lyin'
For me, that one kinda summed it all up in one statement. I've discovered many more thumbs up from drivers, even on the interstate, than negative reactions.

Even the negative reactions are interesting. For instance, most will just "boo" and give me a thumbs-down. I smile and give a little wave, they smile back and that's the end of it. Very rarely do I get someone who flips me off (except when we are in Kansas and Oklahoma) & I have a sign for that occassion. I keep it in the console and push it against the driver's side window when a creep begins cursing and/or making inappropriate hand gestures. It says: "Children are in this car & they see your true values"

To date, this sign has never failed to stop the confrontation. :)

i have all these colorful stickers on the back of the car along with a silver necklace of a peace sign. good size. i have had this for a year, and not a single person has caused me grief. i get a lot of people strain to read at the lights. most i have just people sittin back, in thought. consternation. some people smile thru out reading them.

spring of 2004 i thought long and hard about a kerry sticker. first sticker ever on my car. i had positive feed back with that single sticker. not one person gave me grief. that made me brave. and i like my car. and it is really easy to find in a parking lot full of white cars.

40. I live in Red Texas
My little area of Texas (suburbs north of Dallas) is so red that on the 2004 election ballot, Democrats were only running for 3 of 22 offices. Everyday I drive into Dallas for work and park in a public parking garage. My suburb is dominated by folks that go to the mega-church down the road.

In three years, I have never been pulled over and never had any damage to my car, nor even harassment. On the other hand, I have had numerous people ask where they could buy stickers like mine.

The anti-Chimp sentiment is a lot stronger than you think, even in red areas.

Current stickers: darwin fish, no W (W with a slash through it), and Bartcop's Worst President Ever.

50. Put the sticker on a magnet and you can remove it when you park
If it makes you more comfortable, you can get those sheets of magnets in office supply stores, put the sticker on one, cut to fit, and then slap it on your car at will. This way, you can remove it when you're not feeling ultra-comfortable about parking/riding with it on your car.

I have a LOT of stickers that I rotate depending on the news of the day or just how I'm feeling any given day. It works out well and I'm not stuck staring at the same one(s) all the time.
