Anyone see McCain on Daily Show last night?
What did you think? I thought Jon Stewart was too "in awe" of him. I have also decided that McCain REALLY creeps me out. He has an irritating smugness about him. He doesn't really answer any questions, just turns them into a joke, or repeats some stupid pre-prepared line. I used to think, the world would not end if for some reason he won, now I think, "How crazy could I have been?"

1. He's acting like his 'hero' -- George...

"...He doesn't really answer any questions, just turns them into a joke, or repeats some stupid pre-prepared line..."

:eyes: Where have we seen this behavior before ??

2. I thought Stewart stuck it to him, gracefully and with humor
...but he essentially asked him if he was tossing his sanity to align himself with the nutty fundies. I don't think McCain came off as well as he hoped.

McCain's temper is not one of those mean rumors. He was a rotten son of a bitch when he worked on the Hill at OLA, before he ran for office. Total JERK, frankly.

10. I thought John actually
likes the man but got his point accross..McCain is kissing up to the Bushies and fundies.

I thought McCain looked a bit desperate and was obviously avoiding a real answerer to the question.

Got to love how John kinda insults them and all they can do is smile and act like everyone is laughing with them not at them.

4. i think stewart was impressed with mccain of 2000 and is disgusted
with the maccain of 2006. i was tickled with some of the things stewart asked him. i thought it was courageous of stewart in some regard. he absolutely didnt soft pedal with the religious element in repug party. he took mccain on even in his face. i think stewart did good

in first talking about mccain i though he was buying into the illusion, a little further in introduction it was clear he was not

yes, mccain is such an eeew

17. That's the impression I got
Stewart respects the Mccain of 2000 . . even likes the man of 2000 but doesn't like what he has become.

Mccian came off horribly in that interview. . . using the same talking point over and over again and never really giving Jon a straight answer (Except for saying I'm afraid so or something when asked if he was going to Bat Crazy Town).

5. His often self effacing humor was at one point
refreshing in the political discourse but he sadly sold out totally on the war and morphed into a complete bushbot is all.

are aware of that... and know enough to drop lines every so often to help encourage any illusions.

McCain likes the image of maverick and does what he can to push it along and the Mediawhores are delighted to enable him.

7. the more McCain shills for Bush, the more he's gonna catch hell, though
that may have been his last friendly jostling at TDS

They're going to start showing old clips more, and I think he's going to see them a lot when he waffles like he is doing now.

8. I thought it was funny
McCain's sellout is just so in your face right now. I can't help but to laugh at the guy...kissing up to Falwell? Seriously? He looked ridiculous last night attempting to play both sides.

9. McCain Is Trying To Play Both Ends Against The Middle
...and doing it badly.

Straight Talkin' John thinks he can speak out of both sides of his mouth and no one notices. He can waltz on a Letterman or Daily Show and play the "media darling"...crackin' jokes and aw shuckin'. For several years, this was the nicest any Repugnican appeared to be...it was like he was human. Not that some of us didn't know he was a wacko right wing as they come, but at least he was a nice wacko.

I've long suspected that McCain's game is to "ride to the rescue". He's picking up chits from various segments of the GOOP so that when the party implodes after November, he can ride to the rescue. He's pushing their buttons in hopes of getting enough of a base that will "rally" around him in the wake of the disaster he and other Repugnicans see ahead.

Stewart did an excellent job unmasking McCain last night...he made Mr. Straight Talk uncomfortable and the usually glib McCain was stumbling. McCain might think twice about playing the "fun" Senator...the act's worn old and thin when one hangs with Jerry Falwell and George Booooooosh.

The lack of authenticity was apparent.

16. The Audience Wasn't Buying It Either
That is always telling on these shows these days. You could sense the crowd wasn't ready to embrace Mr. Straight Talk like he had in the past. The cynic in me says that's why McCain didn't grab the train and show up in the studio like he normally does and opted to be "birded in" instead. I suspect he knew things were going to be a bit uncomfortable.

:hi:

Cheers...

12. I've cooled on him myself.
I'm trying now to remember why I thought he was so great. I suppose he would be a better president than the chimp, but so would my cat.

13. I thought it was beautiful.
Stewart cornered him about going to Liberty University instead of trying to "marginalize" religious phonies like Falwell. A look come over McCain's face that was a mixture of embarrassment, guilt and shame. You could see it pained him to admit he's sucking up to the evangelical wing of the republican party that he himself once described as crazy and dangerous. It reminded me of those commercials, "Wanna get away?".:hide:

15. Glad I missed it
McCain is a sellout of the highest order. I used to respect the man, but after watching him kiss up during the 2004 races, I kicked him to the curb.

The man is a panderer and a sellout. He's working on getting his head as far up the RW fundies ass as possible.
