Poll question: Delay resigning makes Democrats happier, or Republicans happier?
Edited on Wed Apr-05-06 08:04 AM by Dawgs
On Air America this morning, between segments, the CBS News announcer asked some women(I don't remember who) this very same question. Her giddy response was, 'Republicans are much happier, it makes it easier for them in the November election, while the Democrats no longer have Delay as the face of corruption'(paraphrasing).

Did anyone else hear this?

My response to her: Uh, Delay was one of many faces. Don't forget about Bush, Cheney, Rice, Scooter, Rove, Abramoff, Cunningham. The list goes on and on. And, by the way, we Democrats are very happy.

1. heh - his resignation DEMONSTRATES the culture of corruption
it doesn't make it disappear. Too many examples for it to be denied.

2. THE Dems are happy
because he was a thorn in the side of even the most meek and worthless Dems. Plus he liked rubbing it in. He managed to hogtie them and add insult to injury, causing them endless amounts of distress. He was so tough on them, that even those spineless worms who would rather vote for Alito just to avoid a public spat felt uncomfortable because of him.

The GOP is happy because he was almost as much a hammer to the GOP indies (now an almost extinct breed) and those heading off the reservation as he was to the Democrats. He controlled money, and that meant control over everything Washington.

One choice you did not have

AMERICA should be happy because one of the biggest perverters of our justice, legal, poltical systems has removed himself. It might be on the eve of his indictment, but regardless of why, he is gone. I still want to put a stake in his heart, draw and quarter him, incinerate the body parts, at crosses and garlic to his urn, and drop it into the deepest Abysal plain in the middle of the Pacific.

3. I posted this in another thread yesterday, but it's worth repeating
From Josh Marshall at TalkingPointsMemo:

"So DeLay is out. But it's DeLay's House. DeLay's Republican DC machine. They built and fortified it with the money he brought in. The great majority of them voted for the "DeLay Rule" custom tailored for Majority Leader DeLay to avoid stepping down even after indictment. The current Republican membership of the House ethics committee was hand-picked to provide protection for DeLay and the old membership was purged. He's their guy. Their rule rests on his machine. They can run but they can't hide."

read the rest here:

http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/008101.php

Just about every House Republican owes his/her seat to Delay, and they can be tied to him.

And Delay keeps whining about "liberal Democrats". The choice for voters is clear - a "liberal Democrat" or a member of a clearly corrupt Republican Party. How many more examples do Americans need ??

Sidebar: I wonder if it makes Falafel O'Reilly's head explode to know he doesn't have that domain name ??

6. Dean had the same mssg- "DeLay is the tip of the iceberg"
On CNN, in an e-mail, and, I expect, as a long term theme. It's an important one.

4. Both
The pubs stupidly think that this will make the corruption issue go away and because they think that people will buy the claim that he is trying to protect a republican seat (My liberal neighbor actually bought that) rather than simply needing get out now to be able to use campaign funds for his legal fees. The establishment Democrats stupidly think that they can take credit for his quitting and use it to raise money from those of us who are disgusted with them for enabling all the corruption in the first place.

5. an interesting "what if".....
I think that Delay could've WON in TX, simply because voters have too short a memory about these things AND the repubs are NOTORIOUS for turning things around at election time, meaning that anyone who ran in opposition on the "tomdelayiscorrupt" platform would find him or herself shouted down with the litany of

ABORTIONGAYMARRIAGEPORNOGRAPHYINTELLIGENTDESIGNETC

because that kind of voter can forgive a few million laundered dollars...but not the baby killing buttsexers. It's in the Bible.

Very recent history has proven this to be true.

I say good riddance either way, and I would rather fantasize that the GOP is scared because they lost their Great White Hope.

Unfortunately, this is exactly the kind of person we're dealing with.
You watch, they'll choose a neocon to take his place, and TX will eat him up in November.
