The First Lady gives President Bush the "greasy eyeball" treatment when he steps out of line.

London Times: The glower behind the throne
From Tom Baldwin in Washington

THE most powerful man in the world can be reined in simply by his wife giving him the “greasy eyeball”, according to a new biography of Laura Bush which credits her with unseen — and growing — influence over the US President.

Laura Bush, an Intimate Portrait of the First Lady was published yesterday after weeks of breathless anticipation about revelations from senior Administration insiders who had co-operated with the author, Ronald Kessler.

But the sugar-coated account does not quite live up to the hyperbole about her stinging attacks on the slovenly housekeeping qualities of Hillary Clinton, her predecessor as First Lady. It says only that Mrs Bush was “quietly dismayed” by the White House’s “frayed” carpets and furnishings. Mr Kessler writes: “She never criticised Hillary, other than to say, ‘I’m surprised her book is selling so well’.”

Instead, the biography is more revealing of her relationship with her husband, George.

She gives him the “greasy eyeball over a flippant or inconsiderate remark or when he failed to show the right kind of courtesy or attention to someone”, according to their friend Donald Ensenat. “She doesn’t need to verbalise with him. It registers.” When Mr Bush said he wanted Osama bin Laden “dead or alive”, she responded by saying: “Bushie, you gonna git ’im?”. He took the point, telling friends: “She didn’t want to see me become too bellicose, react with bloodlust.”...

1. So he admits he has to be reminded not to 'react with bloodlust'.
What a surprise. :eyes:

4. So he just 'bloodlusted' in his heart
And lied with his mouth.

That pic is scary. The pursed lips, the hard, hard eyes. Brrrr.

7. Nancy Reagan hated the look of the Carter's, also. Must be
something about the right wing women and housecleaning. You just can't find good help these days, I guess. You are right, though. The media sure does pick on stupid stories to over hypr, especially if Hillary is involved.

Edited on Wed Apr-05-06 09:30 AM by seabeyond
smart enough, kind and compassionate enough, his own person..... that i dont have to play mama to him giving him a greasy eye. i can trust that he will carry himself well, and handle self well, and make good conversation, intellectual discussions, without me having to play a role in it at all

kinda sad laura has to be mama to george teaching him character at his age and disciplining him with an eye. i would absolutely not want that as a role, along with role of wife. i would refuse. unfortunately we dont have that in pres, which i would think that would be a given..,

doesnt that just say a whole bunch

i literally get pissed when someone makes one of those stupid comments to husband about me wearing pants or being boss of him, taking his power away from him. how dare they

9. my theory: she developed her obsession cleaning up after W
He'd drag in, coked up, drunk, and puking in the bathroom.

She'd get up and work all her anger out cleaning with Clorox and rubber gloves, smoking one cig after another.

13. my guess is there were times when he didn't even ...
... make it as far as the bathroom. Prior to his big "alcohol renunciation" thing at age 40, he would wake up after having vomited on himself ... even one such incident would surely make any spouse don a biohazard suit, or at least flee to the living room couch (and scrub everything down with antiseptic after).

10. The look on her face in that photo is the real Laura.....
not the sweet, southern librarian they try to make her out to be. I'll bet she is every bit as mean and vile as her mother-in-law. What a bunch of hog wash that book must be.
