6. But , but, but just think of all of the clam dip recipes and interviews
with survivor castaways that we can watch during the evening news. :sarcasm:

24. Jeez, they've gone from Walter Cronkite to Dan Rather to Bob Scheiffer to
Katie. WTF?!?!? CBS jumped off the cliff with this one!

Her whole existence has been as an "on-air personality". I'm not aware of any serious journalistic background. But then again, that doesn't seem to be a requirement for much of corporate-controlled media news these days.

13. Only if
they plan to change the show an make it a little "lighter". Which it wouldn't surprise me that much if they did.

7. no actually
remarked how well Scheiffer has done and Imus remarked how young he was at age 69 compared to Andy and Rather.

Andy doesn't suffer fools well...recall him being on Phil Donahue's old cable show and obvious he had no regard for Phil.

8. You know what- fuck Andy Rooney.
Old racist, sexist, homophobic bastard. His 15 minutes of relevance went up years ago.

14. Well, he certainly can be all of that....but I'm not too happy

either.

Perhaps, as some have said, Couric will knock off the cutesy bit and try to be a credible journalist. But, she is clearly out of practice. I'm also concerned about her attempts to placate the RW--she's involved romantically (yes, none of our business, but...)

My usual tendency as a progressive female is to try to defend Couric, but in this case, I share Rooney's concerns. There are many other women journalist types, who I could readily embrace with few qualms. One that readily comes to mind (who is likely too smart to ever take the gig) would be Christine Amanpour.

I'm not happy about the selection for CBS. On the other hand, I will try to give her a chance. However, it may be one time--and for a brief 2 minute segment, if she comes across as I predict.

17. Couric is a muppet..
I can't blame anyone for not taking this seriously. There are hundreds of female reporters who are serious and capable. And they pull COURIC over? Of course Rooney is complaining. Wouldn't you be pissed off?

10. Andy Rooney wanted to spend the money on getting reporters .....
..... and building up their world wide news gathering network. He wanted to promote
one of many internal CBS on air talent who have the skills to be anchor.

Ed Murrow and Eric Severide are spinning in their graves.

11. I can just imagine -- Perky versus Curmudgeon
(with a whine) "Didja ever notice how some network personalities are relentlessly perky? Maybe it is her legs...look at her interviewing the Swiftboat vets here..you see how the camera favors her legs? And here she is filling in for Leno..they cut the desk so you could see her legs the whole time..." (true btw)

15. Perky girl next door is her persona on morning TV
and I don't think it'll translate well to evening news, not any better than Deb Norville's hard news persona fared on morning TV. She's not going to be successful at this one unless she manages to wipe the smile off her face, adopt a more severe style, and basically change her whole on air personality.

She may find herself type cast into irrelevance in record time and landing via platinum parachute.

19. show biz
Folks, this is not news; this is merely show biz as usual. The networks all lost their credibility years ago when they decided that entertainment was more important than news. I'd have to have a gun pointed at my head to watch any of their drivel...it's all sleeze and garbage. Katie Couric??? Geez.
