Am I the only one who thinks Katie Couric is also unattractive?

Many are decribing her as "perky' , "blonde bimbo," etc. The implication is that she is getting the job for her looks! But Katie is IMHO, no looker. And she has no journalistic talent. She was at least average looking as a brunnette but when she went blonde , she became strikingly unattractive. Her personality is bland and I cannot imagine why she had the job on the Today show, let alone major anchor. My family always worked for CBS and this is a dark day.The mystery is why CBS, with its great journalistic tradition would destroy itself.

10. Hey! I am responding to other posters

contention that this is looks based. I don't think it is as I think she is unatttractive.She is the one buying into the structure by going blonde and wearing short skirts! And looks are part of what people notice whether male or female. And in the media, it is often what sells. This seems an anomaly to me as I don't think Couric fits the pattern(though she trys) and that is worth discussing! It is also worth noting that she is an airhead. And so is Matt Lauer, who also is NOT attrative in MHO.

nothing to do with her looks. She is a pleasant enough looking woman who doesn't seem qualified for the job. I guess they hired her because she seems to be America's Sweetheart. That is what TV is all about.

7. I don't find her all that attractive, and when you factor in her

personality, it makes her even less so. I remember a year or so ago when Katie filled in for Jay Leno on The Tonight Show. All of his staff said they couldn't wait for Jay to get back, because Couric was such a bitch. Very demanding, and not pleasant at all.

I think she must have an inflated opinion of herself.

Plus, I've heard she's hygienically challenged. Surely she can afford soap and deodorant...

It's the happy talk crap that is the issue. But, I am willing to be surprised. Given a different mission, she may turn out to be great. I highly doubt it, but it could happen. I do like having a woman breaking up the solemn white guy rule, though.

12. I Think She's Cute

She obviously enjoys life, had a sense of fun, and feels good about herself, which tends to make other people enjoy seeing her or being in her company. (Disclaimer: Although I never watch her on TV, I used to work with her brother, who is a decent guy.)

I agree that female anchors are scrutinized for their looks. But male anchors are not immune from that, either -- Dan Rather, Peter Jennings, and some others have been handsome men.

What bothers me more is Couric's lack of gravitas and seriousness, which I think shows that the news is still being trivialized, commodified, and marketed to the lowest common denominator.
