Abortion---Shut the fuck up
Edited on Mon Jan-09-06 01:58 AM by Blue_Roses
Kate O'Brien and those who have NO idea about what the hell they are talking about! Watching MTP now and she is so clueless and behind on what the facts speak now--NOW--Kate. I'm not real impressed with who the spokeswoman for NARAL is--she's stuttering and somewhat...slow. Slow to react to how these idiots spout their idiotic views. Where is Faye Wittleton.

From what I see from this "exchange" is that our pro-choice speakers need to be more assertive, without blinking an eye to choice.

Why--WHY--the hell are we still arguing this issue? WHY? It's a WOMAN'S FUCKING RIGHT TO DO WHAT THE HELL SHE WANTS!

It doesn't matter what YOU want personally and it's NONE OF YOUR FUCKING BUSINESS WHAT I MAY WANT!

3. frustrating, isn't it?
But there's no way around the abortion issue without it being discussed as a moral issue instead of a health and legal issue.
The whole debate needs to be reframed on our terms and tone.

4. Kate O'Brien is pure scum
I couldn't stomach her on the Capital Gang and I mostly refuse to watch MTP when they have her on. I happen to watch the re-run tonight and she once again confirmed what a whore she is. She's a pathetic shill, bought, paid for and not available for returns.

8. frustration
Edited on Mon Jan-09-06 02:18 AM by Blue_Roses
sorry...to offend...but pure frustration. I watch this issue debated time and time again AFTER I have worked with women and CHILDREN facing unplanned pregnancies. You have no idea how this issue is so over politicized and LESS misunderstood. So frustration abounds...

Damn, scolded by my own peers:eyes:

and agree 100%. When they send mealy mouthed speakers on the talkshow circuit they should be sending the best. This is not a time to cut corners.

23. That was Kate Michaelman for the choice side.
I didn't think she was mealy-mouthed at all, and I think she easily got the best of Kate O'Bierne.

10. agree with all of you 100%--we have been fighting this battle for years
and the anti-choice side gets more hysterical, and yet more powerful, all the time.

I say again, "each and every anti-choice argument has, at its heart, a profound hatred for women. Whether the argument is religious or political, whatever their reason, they say that someone, or something, be it the fetus, the sperm donor, the church, the state, whatever, is more important than the woman. This is completely unacceptable."

27. "...a profound hatred for women."
I agree; I've been saying that for years. And the men who are anti-choice seem to have the attitude of "how dare you mess w/my sperm, bitch."

Notice how the majority of people who are anti-choice appear to be misogynist, pro-war & pro-death penalty. Puts the lie to their "pro-life" bullshit.

11. I have a different approach
How bout we give them the abortion thing? This is the last thing they want. It's all in "be careful what you wish for." The only reason they do the abortion thing is to divide the country. They actually never want it to be resolved. If they win this issue, they go down in flames and they know it so... why don't we give it to them? Fine, you win, now deal with the real nation and lose ALL of your elections. I say we give them what they purport to wish for, then let the chips fall where they may. They will get slaughtered!

12. And the women affected by that do what in the meantime?
No, we do not give them that. We don't throw the rights of some of us overboard just to win elections. Whose rights get given away after that, so that we may win more elections?

17. Women are already losing the right to abortion. But no one is watching.

18. Not at all
Enlightened states like California will continue to provide choice. Wack job states like Alabama will look stupid. The country will rebel, and the pukes will loose. I think we need to bring choice and privacy to a head rather than let them devide us based on bullshit. I really think they would be more upset if they won than if they lost.

13. you cannot possibly be serious!! you would sacrifice women for some
lousy elections? that is beyond ludicrous. besides, in case you hadn't figured it out, it isn't about abortion, it is about CONTROL and hatred for women. so you are suggesting that we give them what they want? this sort of political expediency is intolerable.

(by chance, are you missing your sarcasm button?)

14. Good to hear somebody call that one out.
Your talking about calling their bluff...Yeah, I think your right in principle; they don't want the abortion thing to go through, at all. They want to keep it. Roe v Wade getting overturned would bring these guys down so fast. Of course if it does, its not exactly like we could fix it when we got back in.

16. They don't actually want to ban abortion
The fundies do, sure. But the GOP power brokers put the word 'abortion' in a direct mailing fundraiser to the base, and it is good for twenty million dollars.

They want to get rid of abortion like they want to get rid of Hillary Clinton. Read: Not at all. Both are fundraising cash-cows. It is what it is.

24. Because it's not the last thing they want.
If we give them abortion, they'll go after birth control. They're already on the march. And once they take away birth control, they'll go after maternity leave. And after they get rid of maternity leave, there are any number of things they can attack to ensure that good white girls end up back barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen squeezing out 15 or 20 kids each and all the bad black girls starve on welfare trying to support six or seven "delta" children.

15. It's not about abortion. It's about eroding individual rights.
Abortion is just the smokescreen that PREVENTS us from discussing the real assault on our rights as citizens. (Think warrant-less wiretapping and imprisonment without charges.)

"Abortion" keeps our eyes averted, and keeps the fundies reaching deep into their pockets to continue financing the rightwing.

21. But see, I think abortion could be part of that
Declaring pregnant women to be the property of the state will be first because it's palatable to many people. Next it will be all childbearing women. Gotta ensure a steady supply of cannon fodder and laborers y'know. By that time there will be a return of the military draft and debtor's prison in the form of labor farms. I seriously think Roe v. Wade will go down as soon as they have the Court. I truly think Margaret Atwood's Handmaid's Tale is their vision for this country.

22. It's "part of it" that panders to people afraid of losing their own rights
I think that's why it's easy to "talking point" a slight issue like abortion.

Oh, and Handmaid's Tale? An absolutely terrifying and terrific novel.

25. We've got to picket and protest these loons now
Before Alito is confirmed. If were complacent and dont do anything than we bear responsibilty in the looney right wings crusade to end abortion. I saw that we start picketing rw wing churchs, focus on the family, seven hundred club, and the major policy makers of the churches to show em we mean buisness.

26. This is part and parcel of the Religious Right's campaign
to destroy any legal concept that there is an inherent right to privacy. Derailing that concept is key to their grab for power and cultural control. We've seen their escapades during Terri Schiavo - their endless boycotts to impose censorship - this is what this ia really all about. If they can get Roe dumped, there are any number of things they'll set out to destroy - with the goal being that the Constitution exists only to protect the hetero-supremacist white male's domination.
